Round, Circular Base

Not only are there very limited circular block shapes, but it's basically impossible to double wall them (I always double wall everything except my fighting position to make sure that's where the zombies go, even if I've got a trench or strict path for them) and it drives me nuts putting boxes/workstations down and having a gap from the wall.
That said, I've built a big ■■■ castle using the round shapes for towers before. They were just useless rooms that had nothing in them, but it looked nice from the outside.

You could also just go big enough. Drawing a circle to fill my screen, it looks pretty circular. But it consists of pixels, so, I'd guess a 1000x1000 circle would look pretty good in game too. Maybe a little smaller if you want it to be drawn at once ... 
But yeah, the biggest actually round shapes are those COC chemical containers, I think. You can get somewhere with those blocks. But it's not .. pleasant.

Circular bases/towers work fine with a fighting position. As a block mass defense, meh.
Almost anything can be recreated but I usually use a Martello Tower or shoot for a Scottish style Broch. The Broch has an internal circular stairway which I have not been able to recreate.
Obviously, large pure circular towers cannot be built, but a player can come close. The biggest hack is to use a Minecraft circle generator. With the block layout you can see where the ramps blocks, and other block shapes (wedges) can fill in the circle to approximate round.
(Its relatively easy to double wall as well)
