Religion and cults

What do you guys think of implementing some form of religion into the game? I mean, what apocalypse is complete without crazy cultists running around?

So say we would have some "Skulls for the skull throne, blood for the blood god" cult, where we would be rewarded for killing zombies (maybe in particar ways), discovering relics in tresures, building some creepy cultist altars and so on by unique armor that cant be crafted without progress in that particular religion/cult. We could also unlock esthetic things to pimp out our base and maybe even new weapons.

The issue I see in the game as it is that there arent really restrictions on things you can make aside from books. You dont really get rewarded for investing time into specific playstyle.

On the other hand we could have a religion that would suppor being a pacifist. If you can continue on surviving without killing zombies and do other religious stuff like collect relics, build altars and so on, you would unlock again esthetic things, maybe get some buffs that would compliment the playstyle like better sneaking, prices.

Any ideas or opinions to expand on this?

As a preemptive reminder to anyone reading this thread, discussion of any actual religions is not allowed on the forums. Beyond that, carry on.

yes, epic cults of various denominations, could be apllied to survivors and bandits, but not so black and white, maybe a perk system were you only get to pick one, and the AI routine could be target and attack opposing cults lol would be fun

I dont know much about dev´s plans to include real NPCs but I got this idea because I enjoy following some rules in my game. And cult was be pretty immersive way to do it. For example we could chose as our cult "druid" and we would get positive karma for say growing new trees and plants, but would get negative karma by cutting down trees and killing healthy animals.

Some of the perks a druid would get could be non agrresive wolves, faster regen when in the forest biome, better yield with crops. Ya know, stuff like this. The druid would have to get his wood from scrapping things and furniture and would have harder time finding food.
