Hi all I'm an oldie so since a12 or so, looking for traveling hardware for me and my son we gonna travel around the world for a few years. Btw I'm 52 son is 21. Don't have much info on the onexplayer for this game any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards a Dad

Does it run windows? If yes it´s just a question if there isn´t normal laptops with the same or better hardware for cheaper. That thing looks like it has a higher price because of the "Gamer" tag.

The thing is we gonna travel light so just carry on, buy what we need on the way then give away. It's on windows 11 but been looking around a bit on other ones but they kinda lack abit. Might have to just buy one and test it out.

I guess it sort of depends on what you're used to. Compare the laptop specs to whatever you play on now, as well as against the "minimum specs" for 7dtd. Before I upgraded my entire PC, I went from an onboard graphics card to a dedicated one (used, and this was several years ago) and I saw a huge difference in FPS and graphics quality. Now, this was on a desktop machine, so it may be apples to oranges, but I feel like some sort of graphics card is a huge benefit to this game, and I'm not sure laptops are there yet (correct me if I'm wrong).

Just a few things to keep in mind when buying a laptop for gaming:

  • Avoid thin laptops. Thinner laptops have worse heat dissipation, which will cause performance problems. You might be tempted to get one because they are lighter, but they just aren't a good option for gaming unless you're just playing small games that don't use much CPU or GPU. And be sure you have good external cooling for it.
  • Make sure it has a dedicated graphics card rather than integrated graphics. That has a significant impact on graphics performance.
  • For this game, look at getting a good CPU as it's far more important than a GPU for this specific game.
  • I would avoid an Intel CPU that has e-cores. Those are basically wasted cores as they can't really handle gaming, so you're only going to make use of the other cores. If you decide to still get one with e-cores, be sure to use CPU Affinity to set the computer to not use the e-cores when playing this game or other games.
  • Although you probably won't get one these days, double check that you're not getting a CPU that was part of the Intel CPU recall requiring a microcode update. Even if the update was done, I would avoid those CPUs.
  • If you are going to use an AMD CPU or an AMD GPU, I'd recommend having both CPU and GPU from AMD as there are performance benefits to having both from AMD. I'm not sure exactly how noticeable those will be, but I'd still recommend it.
  • Get at least 32GB of RAM and try to get as fast of RAM as you can. Both the speed and the timing. You can find information about speeds and timing on Google if you're not sure how to read those. That will help a lot with this game especially.
  • Make sure you are getting an SSD drive and not HDD. Most these days will be SSD, but just be sure. HDD does not work well for this game. And if you can get a faster SSD, that's even better. You'll usually have one m.2 spot for a drive and then one or perhaps two additional SATA connections. I'd recommend having a larger drive on the m.2 as that will be your fastest drive, so being able to put certain games there that need the extra speed would be helpful.

Been talking with son so we gonna buy 2 laptops kinda saves space. Budget is gonna be like 2000-3000€ each. We been looking around abit but still not set on what to get, we not on a hurry.

I have a benchmark all games and if I get 50+ fps on this one it's good enough
