When I start my game I can see fine then when someone signs into the game as player two everything is dark and you can’t see far at all. I can have them quit the game and it goes back to normal.

Sadly, this option isn't supported for splitscreen. The game was originally split screen view distance but was enhanced to longer distances for single and multiplayer.

What option are you talking about? I’m talking about loosing visibility when having split screen.

Ah, sorry. I thought you were talking about the "display distance terrain' in the startup menu video options. In split screen, there will be a constant fog about a block away from you.
