Hello!
Been planning around trying to do a no death insane difficulty nightmare run speed (Navezgane Map) and have mostly been trying to figure things out on my own, and when practicing on 1.4 while anticipating the 2.0 release the only thing letting me survive through the early game was having pre crafted blocks and doing the 2 block tower strat, especially with open space encounters or random encounters.
Then I booted up 2.0 to see if there were any changes to my strats that would need to be made and soon found out that the zombie attack reach distance was increased for many zombies, making a 2 block tower and even 2 1/2 block towers ineffective or even works against you with zombie pathing (idk if they changed zombie pathing at all.)
Which, i don't have too much of a problem with personally, since it makes the run experience less minecraft-y with the whole tower strat, but it was also the thing that kept me alive through the early game where you have less stamina and less reliable %s to knock down enemies and rely on spacing to avoid taking damage.
So what im wondering is if there are any strats, old or new, around getting through the early game on these insane settings in a way thats manageable and reliable enough to not rely on chance that i should be made aware of, or even just directions i could be pointed in for me to test out myself.
As my 1.4 and current 2.0 runs have gone so far, the game has made it very clear to me that to survive i cannot rely on taking on an open spaced fight, even if it's a 1v1, and expect not to take damage that ends up biting me back at some point later on leading to my demise before i can get past that first early game hump.
So yea, suggestions and comments would be GREATLY appreciated, vague suggestions are also appreciated if they're meant to point me in a direction that maybe has some really reliable strat that i should try and figure out on my own. Thank you for taking your time to read

(TEXT BELOW IS CONTEXT ABOUT MY CURRENT STRATS)
- First 4 points - 1 miner 69er, 1 cardio, 1 master chef (more books to speedrun bacon and eggs), 1 skullcrusher
- Early game I prioritize sledge build with eventually 1 point into knives as a secondary melee
- Hatches for clearing indoors, eventually put a point into mother load to get more from gathering wood for those hatches/2 tower blocks
- Use sneak bows whenever i can while clearing indoors in tandum w hatches as a safety net
- At the center of a town/collection of poi's i build a basic mini horde base, elevated, pole bridge, hatches, scaffolding ladders, maybe like a 20 irl minute time commitment for in case i get in a pinch or encounter a wandering horde during my time there
- Early on invest a point into advanced engineering to maximize my encounters w forge ahead books so i can possibly craft a steel hatch or any other helpful items for night 7
- Eventually invest a point into 'Living off the Land' to maximize cotton picking for cloth and any other harvestable items
- Once i have all my priority perk picks out of the way (depends on the run) i invest all the points i gain leading up to night 7 on my sledge build, so more into skullcrusher, miner 69'er, etc.
After Night 7 usually my encounters get more manageable
Things ive been thinking about with 2.0:
- invest more attention in bows for outdoor encounters, requires a lot more investment in gathering small stones and not exactly the fastest way to clear out zombies esp if it ends up being more than a 1v1
- throw small stones away from my path when encountering outdoor zombies (not a fan of this, feels very boring and could end up being bad if it attracts groups of zombies to one location
- spear gaming, not a fan of this either. i hate spears.
ok thank you sorry if that all looked very long that is all
