PC New A17 Assessment

So, I have been pretty ■■■■■■■ the skill system because I like the LBD progression a ton more. While I still think that simply adding the new AI, POIs, graphics, and vehicles to A16.4 would have been the perfect game for me coupled with the LBD and RNG books and weapon parts.

Here is a mix of pros and cons to me, not sorted lol.

*The gun mods are cool, but still feel like a gimmicky meh factor.

*I still think the magazines were a pointless addition.

*Can't comment on AI pathing yet because I have yet to do an A17.1 horde night.

*Locking steel production behind the steel tool gate is pointless when so many low level recipes require large amounts of steel

*The zombie fighting is still fun

*The balances have made the builder role feel better

*stamina felt fine to me in A17 stable, still fine in A17.1

*MP is great fun

*I HAVE YET TO GET AN ANSWER IF STEEL AMMO WILL BE USABLE IN THE AUTO TURRET ~Madmole?? ~Gazz??

*RWG has a long way to go, my last map had a huge town that was literally all radio towers, junk yards, and waterworks.

All in all, despite my gripes, I am still having fun. I would still recommend the game to my friends. Though I would not have on the initial experimental.

Still needs balances, TFP has been pretty open with us in regards to things that *may happen.

****side note: please bring back some permanent learning books like Minibikes for Dip♥♥♥♥s that would allow the player to craft the minibike when found. Some incentive to actively search and be rewarded.

Thanks for reading my opinions!

1) Guns do bring a lot, but trigger mods could work better(especially burst one), if they are gimmicky for you, I highly doubt there will be anything they could do to satisfy you on this one.

2) You're probably using them wrong, do not treat them as something to boost your main skills, use them to boose the skills you DO NOT main, especially in early game where choices need to be made.

4) But still is very early game now at lv35.

9) I'd like to know about steel ammo as well, I've reported in as a bug back on A17 launch just to be sure.

And for the last one:

That's exactly what you can use magazines for.

Ya know...

The magazines would be kinda cool if you had a "Minibike" skill magazine that just buffed you up to the required skill points in Int and Grease Monkey (I think that's the skill) so you could, for 30 minutes lol, craft a minibike.

Apparently immediately after that we all run to the bathroom and stick the needed pages together to build a mini bike and the magazine is worthless. *shrug*

1. gun parts satisfied me with scaling damage

2. I use them as intended, still feel pointless. IE: get passed death debuffs, put me over the threshold for something so I don't have to use a perk. ect...

4. still doesn't change my point

9. agreed

And for the last one:

STILL NOT PERMANENT LMAO

Everyone that comes to these forums knows that you love this game the way it is. Doesn't mean you're right, or wrong, but some of have different opinions lol

Steel is unlocked at level 35 Int 7 I think? Before that you can buy it at traders and mine safes for steel, I don't think there are any recipes prior to that requiring steel.

Magazines were gazz quick filler idea, but won't get cut until A18 so we don't break saves. I have some ideas to replace them. I'm not really a fan of steel ammo. Should have just made more brass sources and called it a day. No idea what it will take to make turrets support it. Nuking steel ammo and adding more brass would solve it though.

You could add brass veins under cities, and texture them as pipes? It would be cool to mine out the old infrastructure of a city.

I like the way you think. This is a great Idea, cities have their own ore generation.

IDK steel had it's place and fit imo, for when the brass started to run dry, and as a last resort. Knowing you were ruining your gun a bit quicker but you being in a pinch and not having enough Brass casings for your ammo to survive the looming horde night, you made steel ammo to ensure you had enough munitions to last till morning.

Plus it also gave another use for getting the ability to make steel instead of just using it for blocks.

I just always thought of Brass as a highly sought after commodity that ppl would gobble up quickly and would pay the extra cost with either money at the traders, or push them to explore for new sources of it, in order to get it.

Just made sense that brass was a finite item in short supply, because everybody wanted it, as it was the better material to use.

Its probably fine. Its one of those Gazz ideas that has repercussions, like now people want it to work in turrets, and the shotgun users feel like they didn't get any love. Whats next, Steel sandwiches and steel dukes?

haha, it'll never end, and I don't think it's a bad thing for you all :)

IMO though, I wouldn't want to use steel casings in an auto-turret. Make it have a chance to fail and ruin the turret ;) *Boom goes the dynamite!*

Choices make the game mm. Streamlining everything is what's killing your (forum) audience.

Now, we know that we don't always see eye to eye, but I hope you consider this.

Look steel ammo is a real life thing. The projectiles are not steel but the cases are and guess what they suck! i can not tell you how many people have brought me weapons that they fired cheap steel cased ammo out of that were screwed up. Yes it has a place just not in something like a motion activated turret. In a pinch yes I would use it in an emergency but for real life self defence hell NO!

Sorry for the rant back to our zombie appocolypse!

Madmole, in blocks.xml change under the <block name="autoTurret"> section the line <property name="AmmoItem" value="ammo9mmBullet"> to be <property name="AmmoItem" value="ammo9mmBullet,ammo9mmBulletSteel">

Just tested that and it works.

I also quite like the idea of steel ammo as it's a resource you can mine and not run out of, but has repurcussions to using it. Only other thing I can think of to make really long term games last, is to do something there's a modlet for which is adding zinc and copper veins so you can make brass. I can understand not wanting to do that though as those materials would only have a single use.

Edit:

Just made a modlet for the steel ammo if anyone wants it: https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?105272-Auto-Turrets-Steel-Ammo&p=929421#post929421

Good Job!

Weapon mods are not gimmicky and opens up possibilities for xml mods that didn’t exist before.

A16 was a pile of shiiite. Clearly TFP finally got their mojo and made a truly moddable game which is what hardcore people want. Normies can go play MLP, I’m sure nightshy needs a friend there ;)

I miss the old quality system for weapons. Gave you reason to keep scavenging for weapons.

However, I think the current mod system can bring that fun back. Just need a larger variety of mods that actually make a difference and has trade offs. For example, I'd love a mod that would make a gun shoot slower but does more damage (or vice versa). :)

I think that durability should come back, absolutely. But the gun parts plus mods thing would be too confusing to normies.

Oh I have a gun barrel and a HI CAP MAG mod. Why can’t I make a gun?!? :face palm:
