PC My friend and I cannot join each other in 7 days to die multiplayer on Xbox one

So today I got my friend 7 days to die as a gift. However when I created a new multiplayer world it kept giving him a server connection error. So then he tried to make a multiplayer world I got the same error. Although we were both able to join a random multiplayer world. We’re having this issue on Xbox, if any has any advice let me know. Thank you 

 
Most commonly it's a NAT issue with your modem/router. Basically, the ports used by the console are directed incorrectly or blocked. If you Google "Xbox NAT issue", you should get a pretty large number of results with how to test and work around it.
