Modding the game yourself.

Hi, I am new at modding, I would like to create a modded version for myself just to try out. My main question is, is it easy enough to say copy the poi's from War of the Walkers over to a vanilla build without copying over everything else. If so how do i do it or is there some info on here. I have searched but cannot find anything to helps me.

Cheers noob at mooding

No; any new poi you want to include in your mod will also require an edit to the rwgmixer.xml file, which is by far the most challenging xml. Adding new poi's is easy enough, but you can really break stuff in that file.

The other concern would be how much War of the Walkers changes blocks.xml. If block ID 999 in War of the Walkers is, say, a cobblestone ramp, and in vanilla that same block ID is, say, a cash register, you can see how a WotW POI without the blocks.xml file would look all wrong and borderline unplayable.

Thanks for the info guys. I have downloaded the compo pack and added that to the vanilla version, also have copied over the rwgmixer.xml to see how that pansd out. Gonna try and alter a few recipes and maybe creat a couple myself. Would really like to get into modding for something to do over the Winter months.

P.S. I have created a seperate folder and copied the vanilla over to that, just to mess about with. Still have my proper vanilla in the steam folder.

Yep, sounds like you are well on your way. =)

Feel free to ask questions, but please at least try a search on this crappy forum software first... 99% of what you are likely to ask will have been answered somewhere.

I'm a huge fan of Google site, meaning in Google type this:
