Local Server Issues

I put a post in the report a bug section but came here cuz its been 4 days of me trying to solve this issue and I am MISERABLE cuz I'm recovering from surgery and just want to sit around and play.

Anyway we keep getting error message like

ERR Task_CommonReaderSTeam(CH=0)

EXC Attempted to read past the end of the stream

I have managed to get worlds to generate without this then deal with lots of error messages about saves and lack of save file...?

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache, deleted everything during the reinstall and also removed all mods. I still get errors without all mods.

This almost always happens after completing my trader quests and we start looting together or trying to put something down in the world. I have recreated this NO LIE over a dozen times  Cuz right now all I got on my hands is time LOL

It should be said that when we were trying to figure this out it ruined every save we had. After the error and then not working, when you leave the world you can never get it to load again. It gets stuck on "building environment"

Ill post the two logs I have on here after we did the wipe and reinstall.

For all details please refer to my post in the bug section.

V1.4 (B8)

Any help or other ideas appreciated

Host side warnings without mods, turns into errors if we were to continue

The log you have without mods doesn't show anything wrong. I will add that the crafting from containers mod has a high chance of causing issues, there's a reason we don't do it in vanilla. Did you use the game cleaning tool?

Also note that if you started a save with mods, removing the mods will usually break things and cause errors.

Thanks for the heads up. I will get rid of that mod!

Ok if that one looks do you happen to know what these warnings below are, that i copied from that log? I've spent a lot of time reading a bunch of different stuff and just can't grasp it.

Weve noticed if the game starts with these warnings and we play together, it crashes and turns these warnings into errors. They are something we havent seen before.

Those are fine. What I would do is have everyone remove all the mods and clean the game out using the cleaning tool and start a pure vanilla game and see how that goes. As far as the second log goes, that looks all normal

Thanks, whenever I remove mods I check integrity, reboot game, and generate new world.

Ok I've never used the cleaning tool but I will figure it out.

I had generated another world, only i was playing. I closed down and went to continue game just to see what happens and now I'm getting this again.

EXC EndOfStreamException: Attempted to read past the end of stream.

Cleaning everything is probably my best bet. I've Uninstalled and cleared cache twice but obviously I'm missing something.

You didn't use Vortex or similar did you? And yeah the error isn't good but it is a pretty broad error, would need a log of it reproducing in vanilla

No I didn't use vortex or anything similar.

When I get home I'll start another vanilla game and get the logs

The cleaner did not work.

Have you added the game install folder and save folder (entire appdata folder for 7daystodie) to antivirus realtime scan exceptions? You need to add it to Windows Security for it to be excluded (and any other third party antiviruses)

  • In Security, go to Virus & threat protection
  • Scroll down to Manage settings
  • Scroll down to Add or remove exclusions
  • Click add, and add folder type -- add the folder in Appdata and add the install folder (for appdata, paste this into the explorer URL bar: %appdata%)
