I was thinking about creating an item that when putting coal he gave you Metal or Nitrate after a while. Like a Driller.

Make an object, you could import some large looking quarry model.. then player clicks it.. brings up crafting menu.. put your coal in there.. make your recipe.. with a long timer.. player comes back to wahtever you want them to have.. thats one way you could do it. unless you want them to physically mine it
