Issues connecting peer to peer

These are not dedicated servers, i can occasionally connect after 7-12 tries. Router reset isnt the issue as sometimes it outright rejects, other times it will load up after steam/epic  verification open the loading screen and say receiving/loading configs then close again. Only to disclose that I couldnt connect to the server or information not recieved, this happens with any friends i try to play with.

 
Turn the Network Workaround option in the General settings on, and add the game folder + save folder to antivirus/firewall exclusions, see if that helps. If you just use Window's security, you still need to add them to the realtime scan exclusions list

workaround fixed my issue but not a friends, where would i go to add the game and save folder to these exclusions?
