That's what I was literally thinking while mining underground the very first night. Almost no XP for anything but killing Zs and you need quite a few skill points for even the most basic stuff.

Please, tell me how that makes any sense.

Someone in the server complained about not being able to boil eggs, and I commented that we're too dumb to understand the intricate process of putting an egg in hot water and waiting lol. I can make a forge and use it to smelt ingots, but boiling eggs?

Beyond me.

 
Some zombies just won't share what they know, so you have to kill them. After you've killed enough of them in front of their friends, the friends decide that they would rather tell you what they know than die. Of course, you're ruthless, so you kill them anyway even after they tell you.

The apocalypse is a brutal place.

 
^^Better than any explanation TFP gave us for why we can't figure out how to put meat on heated metal bars to cook it. "Nah man, you just throw it on the fire until it's crunchy."

 
I think my first foray into messing with XML is going to be to add "fried eggs" as a recipe that only requires the cooking pot and 2 eggs, but no water.
