I don't want to see an earn by doing system that forces me to do boring and repetitive things because I want to build a better axe or a better shovel.
The only time I mine for iron is at the very beginning when I need iron ore to fuel the forge. When I get my wrench, I quit mining. I do chop down a lot of dead trees to build my base but is that mining skill? When my base is built I quit chopping down trees. So it would not advance much after that.
Learn by doing advancing the skills of your weapons of choice does make sense. Using a wrench to increase salvage skill would work for me but what about the people that like to mine and don't salvage that much? Salvage skill is one thing, what about your ability to make a better wrench? Does that go up when I take apart a car too?
What about taking damage on your armor moving armor skill? I use ranged weapons, typically don't take much damage.
It's just a can of worms. The system we have now works
