I don't mine very much. If learn by doing advances mining skill, that's okay but if it advances your tool skill, I'm screwed.

I don't want to see an earn by doing system that forces me to do boring and repetitive things because I want to build a better axe or a better shovel.

The only time I mine for iron is at the very beginning when I need iron ore to fuel the forge. When I get my wrench, I quit mining. I do chop down a lot of dead trees to build my base but is that mining skill? When my base is built I quit chopping down trees. So it would not advance much after that.

Learn by doing advancing the skills of your weapons of choice does make sense. Using a wrench to increase salvage skill would work for me but what about the people that like to mine and don't salvage that much? Salvage skill is one thing, what about your ability to make a better wrench? Does that go up when I take apart a car too?

What about taking damage on your armor moving armor skill? I use ranged weapons, typically don't take much damage.

It's just a can of worms. The system we have now works

Well, given we know nothing of what they're cooking .. for me, anything that reduces "looting crafting magazines" is a plus at this point :)

But for your worries, especially
So it would not advance much after that.
If you're not using it, either "anymore" or "at all"; why would care about it advancing?

I have no idea, but I don't think they'll change the skill point system much; mainly crafting, if any.

Just for a point of clarification, the title should say if it does not advance your tool skill I'm screwed. Have a very short period of time before you can edit a mistake

I don't think that clarifies it much, either :D

I'll guess, is "If LBD isn't going to have a single skill for all tools, I'm screwed" close? As in, you'd want wrenching to improve mining and vice versa?

That still leaves my question open, "if you don't plan on using the skill anyway, why are you bothered?"
