PC How to generate world bigger than 8K?

Has anyone been successful in generating maps bigger than 8K? I've tried to generate 10k and 12k worlds, but it always crashes. I have an nVidia RTX2600, 32GB ram, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 8 core (16 psuedo cores). Slackware 14.2 with 4.4.227 kernel. And it just flat won't generate anything bigger than 8K.

Yes, I know, use Nitrogen. I do. It makes beautiful 16K worlds in no time at all. But I want to play with vanilla RWG on big worlds and as with A18, nothing bigger than 8K will generate.

AFAIK it's completely impossible to do anything higher than 8k with vanilla RWG. It just can't handle it. Nitrogen is probably your only option.

Is there just not enough demand for bigger worlds to make it worth the effort to support this? Some of us have high end systems and would not mind it if it took  hours to generate a 16K world. At least it would get it done. Nitrogen works, but Damocles vanished a month ago and no one knows what the future of Nitrogen is going to be.

You can do 12k with no issues in the client. Dedicated server is sketchy at it.

16k maps are just asking for trouble as they have a number of critical issues.

also... RWG
is scheduled for re-work in a20 because of the major changes that will happen with it.

Its not about demand. It is about stabilizing what they have before expanding. They need to get RWG locked down and shippable on 8k and 4k worlds before they can start going larger. They know people want larger and they know people want options but they aren't going there until they are happy with the quality of what they've got.

Nitrogen is a great option in the meantime. What's wrong with playing on a Nitrogen map as long as you keep everything else to vanilla?

Dude, you just made my day. I know A20 is a ways off, but there is just so much potential for RWG. I feel like the current iteration is barely tapping the potential. So yeah, this won't happen until next year, but I'm not going anywhere :D :D :D.

Nitrogen works and works well. I was just wanting to play vanilla RWG for a while to compare. There is so much potential for RWG, but it really isn't been tapped.

What you did with A18 (or was it A17?) is an example. Your ...ok what was it called...I forget....but what you did was amazing, I ran that on my server for a long time, and my players all raved about it. The ghouls were really great!

Are you talking to yourself now @zootal? Wait....are you complimenting yourself...?

Oh someone let the cat outta the bag now!

Same thing happens on my Ubuntu  box. It generally crashes at the same "Generating Towns". Some seeds work for 10k maps. Strange thing is I can generate 12k maps on Windows dedicated, then copy  it over to the Linux server. That's what I had to do this time. Wish Nitrogen would get updated to stable.

Me, I prefer the old gen from a10 with infinite world was better, go to +100km from center and nobody will come to kill me in server pvp xDDD

It's not like they could hit you that far out anyway with the intense stuttering you got past 15k.  There's a good reason we don't have those worlds anymore.

Maybe I missed someone else mentioning this but, check out the Nitrogen map generator mod.  It is going to blow your mind.
