PC How is everyone using the traders?

Just curious about how everyone is using the traders.

I play 90 min days and I'm finding the quests a little far off during the first 7 days for me to manage them and get enough food/resources so I've been skipping the trader.

The only things I find to sell (by that I mean, things I'm willing to sell instead of horde) are canned food, extra clothing and anything I can wrench. If I don't find a wrench I usually have nothing to sell the 1st week.

I've played about a dozen games so far up to day 7 and I'm maybe 50/50 on being able to build a bike before day 7 and without a bike I find the quests a waste of time that I'd rather spend on food & resources.

If the trader has forged steel to sell, I usually prioritize doing the quests for the dukes. If I'm lucky enough to find a wrench early on and the trader has steel I can buy to fix the wrench then it's happy times. I can wrench cars and get rich.

I pretty much treat the Trader as an RNG decision.

Will I focus on Barter and better rewards? Only if I find a wrench AND the trader has steel to sell. Without being able to fix the wrench I'm finding the wrench doesn't last long enough to make focusing on wrenching & selling

Can I find enough forged steel to make a bicycle? The other mats have been easy to get. The forged iron is RNG. (Does trader have it? Did I find a wrench? Can I find workbenches and things to harvest for iron?)

What are your experiences with Traders & the quests?

I don't really use the trader until late game, then I go on trader runs every 3 days or so just to buy all the ammo and stuff for our player perked into cooking. I hit all the vending machines for her too.

Harvest some boulders

Scrap Iron

(if possible level int until here)

Make Iron Clubs

(if possible level Barter until here)

Sell iron clubs

Should be enough money for a meal and a cheap iron tool

The rest depends what you want to do

I can't do that, it's not enjoyable to me. It's the exact reason that I have a hard time replaying Navezgane.

I can understand that completly.

But i can do this, powerplays are among my very different playstyles i use.

Each has own aims

I did a few quests early on and got some healing bandages that were very helpful. Beyond that I don't really find quest rewards that useful for the effort, so I stopped doing them. I only got the first level of quest perk though, so may be rewards will scale better with higher tiers? Not sure.

I play Nav and visit three closest traders every reset. I sell iron/steel tools I make and buy all copper/lead/gunpowder/nitrates/iron/steel/paper I find. I also buy pretty much all the ammo I see, not that I really need that much of it for horde nights, but I just enjoy watching all those turrets work.

I only wish they upped the stack size for coins. I tried to modify it myself in A16, but they had it partially hard coded, so I ended up loosing most of it. Haven't tested it in A17 though.

Yeah I can see if I knew where all the traders were it would change the play through for sure. I rarely find more than 1 trader before I end up starting a new game. (I rarely play more than 14 days before I get bored)

I use the trader just about any way i can, and then some. Meaning,

i sell stuff, i buy stuff, i buy stuff, i buy stuff. The "then some" means

i use the trader to up my forum post numbers by wishing for it either

to be even more useful (more noncraftable decoration blocks) or for it to

go away.

And doing quest for the trader with the attitude some of them have just go

against every rp sense i might have. So i don't.

Lol fair enough. Most of the traders are grumps for sure.

Do you start doing the trader quests right away? Can you run 2.2km and back for a quest and still find enough food and base building materials?

Haven't cooked a single meal in my last play, where i'm level 170, with long days. Bought them all, and the drinks.

i actuly use the traders quests quite a bit, gives me incentive to play and explore dungeons.

the tier 1 buried quests give a good amount of tokens, enough to get me a few good meals or a vital tool or mod for a weapon im useing. if you get good at the buried quests its pretty simple. also the clay can be used later (or snow depending....or sand) so its handy either way.

100% yes to more noncraftable decoration blocks.... 120+ days, only 4-5 barstools. Feels bad when I built a bar and dubbed it "Tot's Tavern" lol

It matches the amount of nonzombie visitors, yes?

Very good stream btw.

you are correct Katt.... however, I still have room for 7 total stools haha

EDIT: and thanks Katt! Just saw the compliment at the end of your post :)

That's interesting. I do find a lot of vending machines in POI's I suppose I could live off that while focusing on trading.

Traders are great sources of resources like wood, especially during the early game when your harvesting and stamina abilities are low.

I play on 120 min days. I tend to use traders for their forges from very early on. Our current game we found one with a workbench and a forge! :D I bounce back and forth buying steel and the like. My partner likes to do the quests so he does them almost exclusively from day 1 while I work on some base stuff. We don't usually start base building much til day 4ish so we can get levels and tools to make it go faster.

I sell anything we dont need like extra guns, tools, any clothing we find more than 2 of, magazines, drugs, etc.... I buy better tools(iron or steel), mods, duct tape, and other basic supplies. I'll also stockpile blade traps and stuff for later use :) I also buy any building items like counters and stuff xD at some point I'll get around to making a nice house with that stuff lol

Right now, just doing missions and buying the occasional resources I can't get my hands on yet, like steel, for mods.

Also been looking for a damn pair of pants since day 1. I've got around 4 traders in my map, and none of them have any pants... Oh, the humanity.

I went around 40-50 days without pants on my last save until someone on the server asked if I wanted pants, I asked why?, she said because I was still in my boxers.... me=huh? well I'll be damned lmao
