Accidentally press the E button using the Gyrocopter trying to quickly adjust your direction? So far this play-through 3 different times. Twice died and third time had a broken leg thanks to skills and armor mods.

Kind-of feel silly on the long way down.
 
I've done it, even thou my keybinds are a little safer; my use key is F, and that happens to have the knob to recognize it by feel. So technically easy to avoid.

But still, sometimes when putting my hand back on the keyboard; gaming on caffeine can be lethal :P
 
I've fallen out of my gyrocoptor probably a little north of half a dozen times now. not sure how many deaths or broken legs, but I can remember twice I was able to get back into the coptor before falling out of range and salvaging the situation.

Yeah, Ive managed to do this in time a couple of times. My problem is I use a keyboard on my lap on my couch and it seems I manage to lose my WASD keys sometimes when I sit a bit different on the couch. Its a stupid way to play a FPS, but I love my couch and I have a nice 55" 4K HDR TV and some good lighting.
 
I think someone had made a mod one time so that if you did press E while in the gyro it would ask you if you were sure. I seem to recall...if my mind is not playing tricks on me lol.
It may have just been a suggestions. Which thinking of would have been a good one :)

Not nearly as often as pressing the shift button only to be stuck...in sprint mode.

Toggleable keys.... I blame console.
 
Yeah, been there done that.

TFP could prevent this if they want. Rebirth Mod has it so that you can´t exit the gyro once you crossed a certain height.
 
Every time I see one of these posts it reminds me of my first MP game.

But that one was two keys ESC+P, and we would tell noobs that combo would give them more engine power. Every once in a while, some one was ejected from the cockpit in the middle of a dogfight.
 
People bailing out of the gyro always reminds me of my buddy when we first started playing ARK. He was terrible about accidentally hitting E while flying high in the air and dying. Lost his stuff several times due to this as he always managed to land where a pile of hostile dinos were waiting. Was always a good laugh. He finally changed the keybinds to stop doing it and that got him killed a few times as well.

Why people think TFP need to make a change to fix their own stupidity is what I don't get. It's pretty simple, just don't press E while flying a gyro. Why is that so hard?

My senior year in highschool I took typing 101 as an elective, for all the wrong reasons. I wanted something "easy", AND well, it was me and 2 buds in a 25 person class. The rest were oposite gender. It turned out to be one of the best classes I ever took. Not because I became a typist, but because of the advent of computers....and keyboards.

All that to say...W is right next to E. :).

I dont think most of the time is about stupidity....but it could be.

Yep. I don't use the Gyrocopter anymore for exactly this reason.

I dunno, it's weird. Like elevators that lock their doors, we could just as well assume people keep their limbs in the moving box, it's their fault if they don't .. :)
 
Just happened again tonight. Not quick enough to press E again, so I wound up with another broken leg and a lot of damage to Gyrocopter.

I think the best thing to do is when you mount a Gyrocopter, is to go to the key bindings and bind control-E or even P or something to the use key. Then when your back in the usual game rebind to defaults. Kind of a bummer to have to do that every time but at least you will safe from ejecting your Gyrocopter in mid flight as if you would really want to do that.

I like this solution. I do find the gyrocopter difficult to fly, which is a separate issue but it means I find it easiest to bail out when I’m still a few feet off the ground. So long as the cutoff height is reasonable (like, will-definitely-break-your-leg height), I think the benefit to users would outweigh any inconvenience.

It’s never happened to me, and it’s hard to imagine I’d ever press it by mistake. Just being honest. I’ve been tempted to put quick swap on Q, like some other games, because pressing Q or E when I mean to press WASD has never been a problem for me. But some people are clumsy. Fat fingering is a thing. It’s not stupidity.

I don’t drop my only bow on the ground when I’m up in my base on horde night, either. But funny thing, they changed the default drop item key pretty quick after @madmole did that on video. 😄
