Have to repeatedly reinstall for friend to join game (you do not have the required privileges)

Hello,

i posted about this before in july and didnt find a fix or get a reply, but once every 3-4 sessions my friend will not be able to join after i load up the world, either receiving the message "you do not have the required privileges" or "network timeout." After i couldnt find anything, I reinstalled the whole game and it temporarily fixed the problems. (we stopped playing for a bit shortly after, but this is a recurring issue now that we're playing again and only reinstalling the whole game seems to temporarily fix it.)

When this error occurs i verify the integrity of the game files through steam multiple times before launching the game and opening the world, and whenever there's an error, it will show "1 file has failed to validate and will be reaquired" prompting a small update from 7 days and Steamworks Common Redistributables. But after verifying the files and launching the game, this issue mostly persists or on rare occasions lets my friend in only to kick them out shortly after. This issue will also persist on different worlds, essentially making multiplayer unplayable until the game is reinstalled.

We are playing on the latest_experimental - Unstable Build (v1.1 b4)? One of four logs are listed below (I can’t post the other 3 without getting flagged for spam) which were attempts to load up the world and invite my friend through steam only to get kicked either from the "You do not have the required privileges" or "Network Timeout" error message.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, input, advice, or even known fixes would be very much appreciated.

Set your dynamic mesh distance to 1000, set Land Claim Only to Yes, and set Land Claim buffer to 3.
This is to reduce the network traffic between you two.

Some other things that can cause Network issues:

1: AntiVirus: Add folder exclusions for the game and save folders in your antivirus software.
    (on both client and host)

2: oem gaming or network optimizers, like Gamefirst from Asus, Gigabyte LAN optimizer, Dell,
HP, Corsair, Razor, etc. Uninstall all this junkware.

3: VPN or proxy: Use split tunneling to add an exception for the game.
    Or turn off the vpn.

4: Using Wifi. (WiFi is half-duplex, encrypted, and subject to interference) Use Ethernet instead.

5: Many newer routers have built in security apps which may be interfering with the game's network.
Log into your router to see if this is happening.

Also you can try the "Network Workaround" option from the Options/General tab.
    (both clients and host)

Thank you for the reply, we both already have file exclusions, dont have gaming or network optimizers installed, dont use vpns, both unfortunately have to use wifi for personal living space reasons, have both port forwarded for all 7 days associated ports on both our router and our system firewalls, and have network workaround enabled. We have our dynamic mesh set to 2000, Land Claim Only to No, and Land Claim Buffer to 6, and will switch accordingly and report back if theres any updates.

Unfortunately though, the particular issue we're having only occurs when, after the 3rd or 4th time launching the game, i (host) get like a 5 MB update on steam before it actually launches, and once i load into a world and invite my friend, they will be prompted with the errors and cant join, and it will not fix if i reverify file integrity. Otherwise these errors will not happen once i've reinstalled the game in its entirety, and for the next 3-4 playthroughs there arent any noteworthy issues apart from disconnects due to my friend's personal bad ISP issues.

So it's almost as if there's a problem with how the game launches and updates on my every so often, and seeing as there's always 1 file that suddenly fails to verify when we have this issue i'm not sure whether to look at this as if its a connectivity problem or if its a problem with the actual game. I've also seen some posts about receiving the error of "you do not have the required privileges" but never found a solid reason as to why or how one would receive that message.

I also once had the game downloaded on my D drive instead and i reinstalled the game on my C drive and deleted the 7 days folder from the common folder in the steamlibrary folder on my D drive, but im not sure if there are any remaining files on my d drive that might be interfering w my current installation i dont know about.

But I'm not sure where else to go from here or if there's anything wrong w my system, files, steam, or game in particular that might cause these problems. Also something noteworthy that i remember tho when i exited the game last night before reinstalling again the command prompt popped up w several yellow lines and 2 red lines of text, and i have the logs for that instance, they are listed below if they provide any important information.

If there's any further updates to this it would be greatly appreciated and i'd be very thankful if anyone wants to look into it, i'd rather not reinstall the game for the 5th time after getting excited and ready to play, and we'll update if any of the listed changes made any improvements.

If the dymesh settings I gave you don't work, try disabling it on both machines. I see you haven't tried that yet.
Your save is getting corrupted somehow. How do you end your sessions? The process should be, your friend logs off first,
then you shut down the game normally. Don't use alt-F4 to end it, don't close a laptop lid. Just a guess, but maybe if
you're ending the game before they've disconnected, the writes from their game don't have a chance to complete.

Hello, we end our sessions as you described, my friend logs out first and i exit the game through the pause menu. There have been 2 instances where my pc had unexpectedly shut off while we played, but we had these issues prior to those instances and they seemingly didnt have much of an impact on our gameplay or save.

We will also try disabling dynamic mesh on our next playthroughs. Also noteworthy that we had this issue start with a world we played in july, and it persists with a different world now, and the invitation problems are across even brand new worlds that we make until the reinstallation on my end.

Also tested to find that after having freshly reinstalled, if i try to verify file integrity all files will verify with no problem, which means my game will literally suddenly have a moment where it launches and 1 of the files will start to not verify correctly nor get fixed when reacquired.

So idrk what would cause my game to suddenly launch w an error and prompt a small update that breaks the steamnetworking. Thank you for taking the time to read and reply, greatly appreciated.

Hello update on this issue. We played like 4 times w no problems until today when, mid-game, my friend is disconnected randomly prompted with "network timeout" and upon trying to relog is met with more "you do not have the required privileges" upon multiple attempts. Right after, I tried reverifying game file integrity and low and behold again 1 of the files suddenly fails to validate and is still broken upon reacquiring.

At least we know atp that it isnt a launching problem necessarily and one of the files can just break or corrupt mid-game. During these sessions we launched without EAC and tried the dynamic mesh and setting changes, but they didnt seem to change anything.

Below is the log of the 3-hour session we played ending with my friend getting kicked (network timeout), attempting to join back (you do not have the required privileges), invited back (successfully joined back), then kicked again shortly after (network timeout)

https://pastebin.com/utg1rdsz (instance seemingly starts at "2024-09-17T00:03:39 5940.809 INF" resulting in an "Invalid Login")

And this is the log after we relaunch the game and world where i invite my friend and they are met with another "you do not have the required privileges"

https://pastebin.com/tQzyaq0P

Hopefully this can provide good information to resolving or figuring out the problem, if theres a way i can find out which file is being corrupted or needs to be reacquired every time i would love to help out in any way i can, thank you for your time again.

Right at the beginning of the first log it is showing a poor connection to Steam. Since this is the host, that is going to be an issue.
Also seeing a lot of spam regarding a controller. That will bog the client down a bit, and that system is already struggling to maintain any decent FPS. Which is odd because a mid-grade 8th-Gen CPU and a 3080 shouldn't be bogging down in FPS like that. Which probably means video settings are set too high. Or it could be related to the controller issue. Host should unplug that thing and kill any 3rd-party software for it before playing.
Eventually the player is kicked because authentication fails. Which is basically because the host client checked with Steam to validate the player, and wasn't able to.

So lets look at why this system is struggling SO much to maintain 40FPS when I know for a fact that hardware can do better.

  • Host appears to have the game preset to Ultra. Which isn't good. This is a CPU-bound game. The 3080 isn't going to perform that much better than a 1070.
  • They need to disable a lot of the premium options like shadows, reflections, SSAO, and I would disable distant mesh as well because they don't have a high-end CPU to do the extra processing required.
  • Disable V-Sync as well. It causes more trouble than it helps.
  • Settings are basically configured for a finished game optimized to run on the GPU. That will work fine for something like Ark or Cyberpuke. They can run awesome with a 3080 on an old Intel Core 2 Duo because they don't care about the CPU much. 7 Days is different.

So basically, still have a networking problem either due to not fully excluding the game client and save folders. Or maybe it's just crappy WiFi, a bad ISP modem, or some other networking issue. Or maybe the networking problem is just a symptom of bogging down the performance with other apps and poor game options. Maybe it's drivers, or something else.  I would need a published Speccy output to look deeper.

I have a 1070 and I do have to turn some things down. My game runs really well (even with 70+ mods) and doesn't look that bad.

I do make sure that everything from Bloom and under it is turned off. Also as suggested I have Dynamic Mesh turned off. Strangely I have my game v-sync on but doesn't seem to affect my gameplay.

Anyway yeah a lot can be turned off/down and the game will be playable and look pretty decent.

I am single play though so that may also affect my game.

 Hello, thank you for replying,

I have my settings to the medium preset with removed motion blur. As for the performance, this PC was built almost a decade ago, and the 3080 was a gifted replacement after my old GPU died, so maybe my system or cpu is getting bottlenecked.

I'm interested in the controller thing, does it show which user of the 2 of us is responsible for the controller issue? On a potentially unrelated note, my friend has recently had mouse problems on Valorant, and when i looked into it for them a lot of sources pointed this particular mouse issue towards a controller that was plugged in, which is weird because when we checked their devices on control panel there werent any unfamiliar devices so we just chalked it up to faulty mice, but if the controller spam isnt from me (host, helloimk) and its coming from my friend (Bugga_bugga) then you mightve also helped us identify an actual problem w Valorant as well if we can find out whats causing it lol.

But I also usually have a Wacom PTZ-930 drawing tablet plugged in which im not sure if its read or detected as a controller of sorts and if thats whats maybe causing the controller spam, i read this reply halfway through one of our playthroughs and unplugged it to see what would happen and we'll provide updates if that seems to fix anything.

As for the networking problem, could be that i need to reexclude on the files after reinstalling the games multiple times, which ill do and report back if theres anything to note. We both use wifi and have isp issues from time to time, but this problem seems to just start happening outa the blue and once i reinstall like 20 minutes later it completely goes away as if there was never an issue to begin with. All drivers are up to date and we have minimal app usage while we play.

If you would like me to get a Speccy report ill look into it, but as for right now we are playing on a reinstallation and i dont know if you would like me to provide anything else at a time while the game is dysfunctional again.

Thank you again for your time and energy, lmk if theres anything else i can provide to help with this issue.

I don't know much about controllers (have this in mind ;) ).

But I guess it's all about these warnings in your logs:

2024-09-16T22:47:04 1345.395 WRN UIUtils: No device binding source could be found for PlayerAction GUI D-Pad Up
2024-09-16T22:47:04 1345.396 WRN UIUtils: No device binding source could be found for PlayerAction GUI D-Pad Left
2024-09-16T22:47:04 1345.397 WRN UIUtils: No device binding source could be found for PlayerAction GUI D-Pad Right
2024-09-16T22:47:04 1345.397 WRN UIUtils: No device binding source could be found for PlayerAction GUI D-Pad Down

The fist log has 36 of these warnings - but the second one has 1224. That is a huge amount of warnings. You should check the settings page about these key bindings, maybe reset them to default and/or try unplugging the tablet or so...

Yeah I would unplug any devices like that, they can cause issues like such (maybe not the topic issue) in games when they go to look for controllers.
