PC Getting Screamers Without Firing a Shot

I'm currently doing a T6 infested at Higashi.  I'm using the IZZY gun pack (which is great), and I have a L5 Mace.  I'm on the first floor clearing out the Zs with the mace, I haven't fired a single shot, and here come a pair of radiated screamers!  This happened at another POI earlier, and I thought that I had not fired a gun yet but I just chalked it up as "maybe I did."  In addition, the screamers minions come even if the screamers don't scream.  TFP has really made the screamer mechanics very murky.

Has anyone else gotten screamers without firing a shot?

There are many things that contribute to "heat".  And if you turn on debug mode (dm), you can enable an overlay that will show your heat level so you can see what you're doing that is generating heat.  It is likely that the mace is intentionally set up to generate heat like a gun.  You'd have to ask Izayo or else look through the XMLs for it.  The amount of heat generated by a weapon is set in the XML for that weapon, so a custom weapon generating heat is based on how that custom weapon was set up and not because of the game itself.

Screamers have a chance to spawn once heat hits 25.  If you defeat them, they won't spawn again for about 21 real time minutes (IIRC) in that area.

OK, that makes sense in regards to generating heat.  Maybe I will check the XML for the mace.  Thanks Riamus.

Have you looted shelves by any chance?

If shelves are looted, the shelf block is destroyed and replaced by the version without loot. A sound is played that increases the heat quite a bit. The sound is the same as when you destroy a metal block.

No, I was clearing the floor before I started looting.  I know doing that makes that sound, but I wasn't aware that it also generates heat.  Thanks.
