Careful you don't collapse the roof. Make sure the roof is made of sturdy materials before you start, possibly with support columns in addition to your walls.

There are tutorials on youtube for making a garden under a glass ceiling so that they can be built underground to avoid worrying about hordes while harvesting and planting, as well as never having to worry about collapse. You may want to try that, too.

 
I ALWAYS do this in my game...

Me and the wife tend to pick brick buildings and make a full greenhouse on the roof - wood block frame with windows that way we don't get attacked by THE BIRDS !!! when we are farming. LOL
