Fuel burn timer faster than production timer

When using any work station that requires fuel, the timer countdown for how much fuel is placed in the crafting station will count down faster than the timer for how long the production will take. For example, I wanted to cook all my murky water into boiled water and production time was 16:40. So I put 16:40 worth of wood into the fire and started the crafting, then left to do some missions. When I returned, there was 0:50 left of production time but, all the fuel was gone.

Reproducing this problem has been noted by several people I play with, and happens both on servers and in single player, with no mods. Since this is an issue with multiple people, do you still need the game logs? I've noticed this as a bug in A21, but figured it'd probably get fixed for 1.0 release. If you need logs, I'll make a map in single player, recreate the problem and then find the logs. I haven't had any luck finding the logs in my folders, but I've only played multiplayer since 1.0.

The timers don't really count down any differently from what I have seen.  It is just that when both timers are equal, it either doesn't count the may second or it is reading the timers differently in that the necessary time requires another second beyond to show that the full timer has run, while the fuel timer just ends.  I'm not sure the reason, but I see it all the time as well.  And, yes, it is most noticeable for water because it is an equal number of wood per water (+1 because of this issue).  I know if I have any extra time in the fuel, even if it is just a couple seconds, everything finishes.

When I've done larger projects such as crafting 100+ steel bars in the forge, I've noticed the time is several minutes off by the end. It's not a huge difference in time for each second, but there definitely is a difference.

Hmmm.  I'll have to try it and pay close attention.  I always add enough wood to have just over what I need and don't ever have issues with things not finishing, so I don't know why that would be different for you.  The only thing I see is when times are equal as I mentioned.  But I'll check when I am home and see.

@OneSki Sorry to ping you, but my replies were merged and I didn't want you to miss these:

Just to check, are you using wood or another fuel source?

Besides the question about fuel source I added above, can you test this in single player?  Maybe there is an issue with lag in multiplayer that is causing the problem.

I have tested this in single player, and had the same issue. At least, during A21 I had the issue in single player. Haven't played single player with 1.0 yet.

Ok, I did a quick test as well.  I started the forge with 10 forged iron.  50 seconds required to craft.  I then filled fuel up and checked the time I had fuel for.  Subtracting 50 from that should give the time remaining when I finished crafting.  I then sat and watched it craft and immediately turned off the forge once I finished crafting.   Total fuel time was 53 seconds.  It should have been 50 seconds, or if I was slightly late turning it off, then 51 seconds.  So there does definitely seem to be an error in the timers.  I didn't time it with a timer outside of the game to see which timer is correct and which is incorrect.  Hopefully TFP can test this and find the cause.

My test was on a 2 player game with me as host.
