Farming Witches - Falling through trader ground

I knocked a witch into the inside trader fencing off a high catwalk using a Robotic Sledge.

I saw her fall through the ground and disappear.

All the other zombies will get stuck inside and pile up until they eventually make it over the fence except for her.

Is this a bug, by design so you can't easily farm witches by letting them walk in and closing the door behind them?
