Expanded Water

Side Note: I made a general post in the V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary about my excitement for 2.0 and the various things my imagination came up with. Then I was reminded that the Pimp Dreams sub forums is a thing! So I'll try to break up each idea into its own thread to keep the conversations focused and the likes/dislikes meaningful.

This builds on ideas I posted in Expanded Seasons, but then I realized water is a can of worms on its own, so I gave it its own thread.

  • V?.0 Water

Configurable (per game? per POI/terrain feature? per block?)
  • Static (Non freezing/evaporating) - water as we know it today

Is POI / world gen only? (but what about players who want water features in there bases and use many buckets to make it so?) Maybe a recipe or tool to change what kind of water is placed by the bucket?
  • May represent water that is protected from the elements, such as indoors and below the frost line. Allow overworld features to have some amount of water no mater what (where it is desirable)

[*]Dynamic Water

  • A new block in addition to existing water block
  • Requires opt-in by using the new water block to prevent old / modded POIs from breaking or changing their original pathing or behavior
  • Dynamic (freezable) water may eventually be extended to evaporate in burned forest and desert biomes or anywhere that the season/weather is hot enough. Maybe it exposes paths not previously accessible when filled with water?

[*]Zombies

  • Drown victim zombies as the opposite to burn victim zombies?

[*]Frozen Water

  • Potential for traps where thin ice falls away to a void or ice water?
  • Potential to open up alternate traversal paths and hazards for POIs in a particular biome or season

[*]Evaporated Water

  • Potential to open up alternate traversal paths and hazards for POIs in a particular biome or season

[*]Flood Waters

  • Can dynamic water be placed on static water to allow for dynamic water levels and floods?

Goals: It should be immersive, but fun. Challenging, not annoying. Manageable, but not exploitable. It should not take away from the fact that this is a zombie game.
