A dual wield system could enhance some gameplay

players could hold torches in one hand and tools/weapons in the other

dual pistols would be really fun too

 
We really need shields indeed. Like leather, iron and steel shields.

I don't know about dual pistols, sounds a little much for me personally.

Torches and tools in different hands sounds good, though I think people would try to argue that the Burning Shaft mod and Mining Helmets exist for a reason.

Shields? I'd really love those, but considering that we still lack spears after all these years I wouldn't bet that we'll be getting shields anytime soon.
