PC Do underground bases still work in 1.0?

One thing I used to do when I played 7dtd was have a above ground base on pillars and then a hatch and tunnel underground leading to a mine well away from the main base to put the forge and cement mixer.

I noticed while I was doing this I kept coming up the shaft into the base and a few blocks were destroyed so the zombies beelined to the point where the ground met the shaft going under ground.

I t was quite fun though, while I was in the mine I had forges going and came up and was messing around in the base and I kept hearing something attacking a metal object that was close by so I went around opening doors to see what it was and then I opened the hatch and a entire screamer horde or two piled in from the shaft where they broke through only way I survived was the fact they had to funnel in a small area and I had a good stun baton, mush fun and scared the @%$# out of me when it happened.

But at any rate, did pathing change when you have a block on the ground that can lead to you. Is there a way to go from above ground base to underground area without this happening other than creating a drop where you fall into it, even then I would imagine they just follow you down. Maybe just putting a forge room above ground is the best way now days.

I might just do a offsite above ground room with a small melee horde base to clean up the screamers that seem to constantly spawn even when not doing much.

In my single player world 6k1 I moved into Santigo estates or something like that. Comes with a underground bunker, might just be luck but I have had  no issues with 4 forges, 2 camp fires plus benches all going. Maybe deep enough or becouse the trip into the bunker is a lot of work to get to I also did not open the back hatch.

Only twice had screamers up top but both times I was working on ground level, farming and painting, house plus bunker is larger than a standard land claim but you can always increase it.

I tried a bunker on rock bottom with only a ladder going all the way up. When just running a mixer, campfire and forge I had screamers coming down for me. Easy to deal with on the stairs but a full horde just does not work. Hordes (2nd and 3rd bloodmoon) did dig in the top groundbocks but worst thing is, they push you down and can even get you meshed in the sides. At times they even pushed each other straight through me so I got attacked from under. A good auto shotty with drum mag might save it but it is not the easy starter as some clickbait YouTubers want you to believe. Still usable as workshop.

I dont think there is any way to get away with hiding from screamers no matter what you do, last night i got hit by two and i didnt have anything going. all i was doing was crafting wood boxes to put my stuff in.
