Did developers forgot the first rule of video-games?

The game is no longer fun to play. I used to have fun when I played it in the past, but now I can't have fun anymore. On top of not being able to have big cities generated outside of the Wasteland anymore, I also now can't survive more than 30 seconds on my own in the middle of the night. I remember the days when I could easily do that with just a sledgehammer, but not anymore. I guess the developer forgot the first rule of creating games: "Is it Fun to play?", when they implemented the new changes -_-

Try Teragon, the random map gen utility. You make maps outside of 7Days and then can play them in game. It's got the best random gen I know of and it doesn't gate big cities to any particular biome.

Not sure if you're on PC or console, but if PC, there is a mod to reinstate large cities in the Forest. (I agree the game would be better off without the restriction.) Otherwise, you can just re-add "Forest" to the variable in rwgmixer to get those large cities back. As for the rest, I think they're trying to balance for multiplayer play with all the triggered hordes in higher tier POIs, etc., which solo players probably won't find quite as fun as they once were, but it would be impossible to balance for both SP and MP play, imo. It would wind up like FO76 with structured content being manageable with basic weapons and armor and so forth and MP requiring you to be ridiculously overpowered. If the ferals are too much, I'd recommend just not going out at night for a while and/or utilizing the environment as much as possible. You'll probably find plenty to do crafting, fixing and upgrading your weapons, etc., if you do decide to bunker down. Otherwise, I guess you're sol.

I mean honestly RWG spawns a ton of towns already. Its not like good places to loot are scarce. I'm ok with the biggest city being in the wasteland where the most zombies that are the most dangerous are. If anything it makes sense from both a gameplay and thematic angle.

I'm also not sure why he's having issues surviving at night. Once you get to iron weapons you should be able to take down a feral or 2 if needed and normal zombies should be cake. Before that? Respect the night.

As mentioned, you can use mods to change town sizes in biomes (it's actually just a matter of editing the rwgmixer.xml file) and you can use Teragon if you want a LOT of control over your maps. But I'm confused about not being able to survive on your own in the middle of the night. The game is, if anything, easier now than it used to be. When I'm playing, I'm always out at night and dying isn't even something I think about.

In the night: You have either light armor, then you can run faster than the zombie and go to a safe place (scout one out or build one near you!!! A safe place is for example a few ladders placed on a sturdy wall 2 blocks above ground, and a ledge if you want to stealth. Beware possible zombies on the other side of the wall). Or you use heavy armor (which you probably should not do very early in the game) then you need as a minumum one or maybe even two guns as backup that can take down zombies too hard for your sledgehammer.

This game isn't a pure shooter, it is also a survival game where running and hiding and using the environment is an option.

Early game, before obtaining a decent weapon, I find night time dangerous too. - Mostly it's the threat of a feral spawning nearby and coming over to check things out. ..For the first couple nights I tend to work on my first base .. if I'm starting from scratch It's elevated off the ground, if I'm referbishing an existing house, I start with doors- either will keep you safe. Also in the first few days, don't underestimate the power of wooden spikes. Kiting around them, they can easily turn the tables of a bad situation with just a little preparedness. Overall I find the game easier now than it used to be, and you'll quickly find yourself stronger than the night time feral spawns at which point they really wont be a threat.
... If you're still struggling, you might want to mess with the zombie difficulty settings until you find something fun.
-Good luck out there!

I just noticed that the other day. When did having the biggest city spawn in the wasteland become a thing? I don't recall it being mentioned.
Lol, I started making random maps and kept decreasing and decreasing the size of the wasteland and by end it was just a wasteland that was tiny with a huge city in it. Couldn't figure it out. Now I know why lol.

Sound more like a "You" problem to me. If your account was is just generated for this single post and never responds to any of the comments I consider it as just another troll.
Otherwise I could have considered responding more like "personal preferences/modded gameplay/gid gud" or anything more constructive.

It was either A21 or V1.0. I can't remember.
It was 1.0 when they changed towns in each biome to have small country towns in the forest and progressively larger towns until the wasteland, which has the largest. It's all in rwgmixer.xml for anyone who want to adjust it.

I'm sorry you aren't having fun anymore. I think its a great game! I tire of any game after a while, but I keep coming back to this one after a break, and I really like the changes they have made (with the exception of the frostclaws and the plague spitters - too "magical/fantasy" for the "realistic" zombie survival game, I appreciate them listening to people and dialing back the plague spitters to no longer being invisible)

I don't really like the cities and enjoy the exploring individual houses/places and the small towns much more. Each to their own, ofc, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a mod that will increase city spawns. That's part of what makes this game so good! The developers have left that door open for players to easily change the game to their own play style and preferences either through the base game/world settings or through community-generated mods. I always fiddle with the settings before I start playing a new save. Search through this forum, steam, and Reddit and I'm sure you will find a solution that will work for you.

Good luck finding the fun again :-)

Fun is what you make of it.

Ruminating on the dev cycle, the changes, and listening to the forum chatter; would kill the fun in any activity.

Clear you mind and enjoy the game for what it is. If that is not possible them save yourself some energy, and move on.
