Dedicated Server machine overheating

Basically my friend runs a server machine at his place with a private 7d2d dedicated server instance on it (via SteamCMD), but the GPUs get too hot and we would like to find out why.

He turns his server on in the morning and about 11 hours later when he gets home, he feels that the Quadro cards are so hot to the touch you can fry eggs on them.

Funny enough he already has 4 fans running, if I'm not mistaken (2 side, 2 top).

We only play on it (barely, 1-2 hour sessions per day) with two people.

Is this expected behavior or should we look into better cooling methods?

Look into better cooling, and more RAM. Also, why do you have 3 Quado cards in it? (Just curiosity, really wouldn't be doing much of anything in a dedi, and shouldn't be overheating.)

It could just need the dust bunnies sucked out too.

Ok, sounds good. More RAM for only two people though? I'm not sure how the world expands and demands more RAM though, still new on that.

The machine has 3 Quadro cards in it because it was initially used as a Bitcoin miner but it's no longer doing that.

Dust bunnies might be something too. Thanks.

If only 2 without a lot if destruction or minibike use, it should be fine. 3 will be borederline. 4 will need 8GB.

You can likely pull at least two of those Quadro's out and that will take a huge load off the PSU and reduce heat.

I thought I read somewhere that the server version didn't need a gpu...or even a monitor to run...or has my mind gone comple.....ooh shiny

It doesn't. I didn't look up the model of the MB to see if it had a standard video port.

I did try once to force it to offload some of the SI calculations to the GPU, but the system I was testing on didn't support the functions I needed for it to work.

There are a tonne of things that can be causing them to overheat like you've noted. From anything as little as re-seating the cards to RMA'ing them and/or the MB. First thing is that they might not be seated properly. The MB doesn't have its own graphics so you'll need at least one card. More ram recommended but not really necessary. On servers I barely see memory usage spike above 2 or 3GB and that's with 9 of us on. But with A17 'everything' may change...
