PC Dawn of the Dead 1978

 Dawn of the Dead is The second film in the birth of the zombie craze we enjoy today. The roots of 7 Days to Die comes from these "of the dead" films made by George A. Romero. Without George A. Romero (RIP) and the 3   movies he made about zombie apocalypse , seems doubtful there would be the zombie cult followings we enjoy today..this game is just one.

A giant shopping mall like in Dawn of the Dead (my fav of the 3 movies!) would be so  awesome in 7D2D.

Night of the living dead, the first zombie horror film didn't enjoy mainstream success until  Dawn of the Dead. 

3 cheers for a giant shopping mall POI and oh yeah put George Romero name somewhere in the mall! Give the man some tribute for birthing this craze.

 
actually search "white zombie" as it was the first bw movie made with so called zombies of that era. circa 1932 i believe. i also believe 7dtd owes more to TWD for inspirations. big mamma is actually from one of the romero movies tho.

 
To be fair, @fragtzack didn't say Romero invented zombies, only that his films increased their popularity. While the idea of zombies existed before, I think most people would attribute zombie fandom to the Romero films. TWD, and by extension 7DTD, owe their success to those films. I don't think any of this would exist without Romero.

sorry but i did not say anything about fragtzack. i was fun poking mahrin (sorry for not quoting him but was all for fun not criticizing) he in turn may not be far from the truth as i was only pointing out the earliest known zombie movie and not what is in history as to where it actually started from.

I could split some hairs with you on G.A. Romero's fame and his later productions and how good they are or were, but - I have so good news for you:

You can download something called the compo pack and within there is a POI called Eden Center Mall, and it's a massive POI that can take quite a long time to explore and secure.  Enjoy!

Are you still around? Big Mamma would be from the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake. I either saw a video or read something where Joel said he liked her as a zombie and wanted something similar in the game. I can't seem to find it now though. Would you know where that came from?

Also, on the subject of the thread, Haitian zombies are not the same as what is generally considered a zombie. They are not the resurrected dead. They are simply drugged, living people. 

HP Lovecraft could be considered the originator of the modern concept of a zombie, in the 1920s, with his story The Reanimator, where the dead are brought back to life. Mary Shelly, maybe, with Frankenstein. Mummies are pretty close too.

And the 1950s EC Comics had reanimated corpses. In fact I think EC Comics had the first depictions of zombies crawling out from their graves. 

Also, George Romero didn't call them zombies until other people started calling them zombies. For at least Night of the Living Dead, he called them "ghouls". 

 
Fun fact...The distributor of Night of the Living Dead forgot to add the copyright notice to the final print of the movie which meant the movie was not protected by copyright and immediately went into the public domain.

As a result, reports say that George Romero, the movies co-writer and director, saw little to no money from the film, despite it grossing some over $30 million at the box office.

The distributor, allegedly the company that made the mistake, kept all of the money.
