Windows Can't run game - stuck on "loading game data..." forever

Hi:
Longtime (like many years, bought it in 2014) 7DTD player. Friends and I usually spin it up a few times a year and build a server, have some fun.

However, I installed from Steam earlier today and I can not for the life of me get the game to run properly. It loads the game, displays the Fun Pimps logo animation, and then I get stuck on this forever:

I play on a Windows 11 PC. It's a year old AMD processor, 64GB RAM, RTX4070, etc. I am not resource constrained. When the game hangs on this screen, the 7DaysToDie.exe is running and consumes about 400+ MB of RAM. The processor utilization for the process bounces around between 8 - 15% or so. I am running the current public version of the game from Steam.

Things I have tried:
Uninstall / Reinstall
Uninstall / Reinstall with deletion of %appdata%\7DaysToDie
Cleaning 7DTD entries (the whole hive) from the Registry
Update graphics driver
Checked Windows Firewall (game and launcher are both allowed)
run Cleanup from the launcher
Running the game without EAC

And probably several other things I have forgotten.

Anybody have any ideas for me?

Thanks!

See the pinned topic for how to report bugs to see instructions for posting your log file. Without it, there's nothing anyone can really do to help you other than guess.

Sorry, my bad there.

The log from my recent launch is too large to attach, but it repeats these two lines over and over:

NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
at NGUIWindowManager.Update () [0x0001a] in <3a063f32b5664748afde897a9f002d8e>:0

I'll see if I can re-launch, kill the process, and maybe have a shorter log file.

Thank you for your help.

Here's a log from a launch when I killed it right away.

Just did a reinstall of the game, with a deletion of %appdata%\7DaysToDie and the log is still full of that same error repeating over and over.

It looks like a corrupted preference setting.

Likely something stored in the registry. Open the game launcher, choose Tools, click the button for "Clean game data", and then tick the box for "Game settings". Afterwards, click the "Clean" button at the bottom.
Since you have already locally deleted the appdata folder, you might take just tick "Game Data" and make sure all the boxes are ticked to fully scrub everything.
