Can you get back a save file that was erased via game launcher?

So i did a back up before doing this but apparently was useless because my save still is not there and somehow the backup only saved the world, not my progress in it, i dont even know what the @%$#, when i click continue  in the game nothing is there, the only option is to create a new world and somehow my randomly generated world did save, like what??, is there a way to  get it back?

Generated world data is saved separately from the actual game save.

If you erased data using the game launcher tools, that completely removes the data that you selected to erase.

Your only option would be to have made a backup of those save files. Based on your comments you did not back up the correct folders. Hard to say for certain because you did not give much in the way of details.

Your only real option here that I can see is data recovery software, and knowing exactly what you are looking for to restore. If you have used that drive much since the erasure, then even that is an iffy proposition.

Yeah like Sylen said, saves are a two-parter.

If you generate a world and it's called, for example, Kubixe County:

  • In the generated worlds folder, you need that world with that name
  • In the Saves folder, you'll see a folder called Kubixe County, and inside there is the game save name folder you need

I highly suggest using something like File History for the future, just add the 7daystodie folder in appdata to its list of directories you want backed up. Just note that the folder can get quite big, so keep an eye on it/clean out ones you'll never use again time to time.
