Can GamePass PC users play with Steam PC users

My wife and I are trying to play together but she has the game on Game Pass while I have it on Steam. We cannot find each other's servers and I cannot find any answers, Can we play together?

Here are the steps for Xbox for PC to Steam

1. click join game

2. select the region

3. click search

4. click P2P (the second menu at the top)

5. search for the person's steam name

The steps for Steam to Xbox for PC

1. Click Join game

2. Select the region

3. Click search

4. Click P2P (second option on the menu)

5. Search for the Xbox person’s gamertag

So i tweaked the words on the steps because of the confusion with the word "search".  totally my fault...you'll want to look for the person's steam name or gamertag in the server list.  you'll have to refresh multiple times to find it though.

I have game pass and my friend has Steam, 

He can find my session by searching my username but gets blocked with a "Waiting for Steam Verification page"

I can't search his session at all,

We were able to join a 3rd party session (sorry for whoever we crashed in on) and see each other there, we just can't join each others.

any suggestions?
