PC Bugz

UPDATE: I have some screen shots of the invite button not working.

Alpha 19.1 (was unstable previously. I think we grandfathered into stable)

I've been encountering some peculiar bugs recently. The worst offender is the inability to open my lobby up for my friends unless I exit and restart a handful of times and somewhere in that ritual I magically fix the issue. No clue what causes it, not sure how to troubleshoot it. 20201003145136_1.jpgHere it is when the invite option/join option is unavailable. I exited to the main screen and logged back in and viola,20201003145241_1.jpgIt works all the sudden. Zero changes made at all.

Another is visual: I will sometimes have my quality dive and it looks like my character needs glasses. Like everything is a tad fuzzy or out of focus. It comes and goes, and doesn't kill the game for me, just becomes a nuisance. (no, I don't have any ill effects that cause it at the time). Next time it happens I'll try to remember to screengrab it and update this post with an image for example. It only tends to last about a minute or so and it bleeds back to normal like it never happened. Motion blur is off

Most recent one has been animals disappearing once killed. Seems to only primarily effect the zombified animals, and more specifically the bears. Sometimes I'll kill it and it just disappears into the void once it dies. Doesn't effect me as much as it does my friends, but it's happened to me before. I've noticed the bugs are becoming more prominent the later into the game we are (could just be the mileage adding up). We're on day 45 and the lobby one is now every time we start. I have to take about twenty minutes of starting and restarting to get things open.

Idk what's going on with the first one, but the second one is likely Dynamic Resolution set to Auto (it's going below your set FPS target, why it's blurring the textures). Third... perhaps shooting the corpses? If so that's a known issue. Post your log file so we can take a gander at it for the other issues.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but... are you talking about when you've loaded the server but it wont show for your friends to join? If that's the case, most often than not, I see that happening if: your steam status are either offline, invisible or away (same for your friends). Even then, sometimes it wont show on the filter list.. when that happens, you can directly invite them to game via your steam friendslist, they will be dropped direct into the server. Or they can right-click on you in their friendlist and choose the "join room/match" option.

Definitely sounds like a dynamic resolution thing.

Are you sure you're not just overkilling it? (blasting it by keep shooting it after its already dead, really easy to do with shotguns and a full auto gun)

I think the dynamic res is a likely culprit here, too, but you might also check the Depth of Field setting. Causes everything but what you're "looking at" to go out of focus. It's annoying as hell when looking at/through fences and bars and such (or it was the last time we tried it) and we always disable it.

I've had Depth of Field disabled ever since Distant Terrain was first implemented and that setting made it look like crap.

Forgive my ignorance, but how can I do that?

It may be a bug with that, I believe I do have that going because it appeals to my photographic interests.

Certain, we tend to stop shooting right away and go into harvesting. It's strange and I did consider that, but confirmed that was not it when it happened to me and I one-shot a wolf. Just poof.

As for the lobby aspect, no one is invisible/offline. Example: when you are in game, hit escape and look in the upper left and it will say "invite friends" and that option will be dark grey and unavailable. If I exit and come back (sometimes multiple times) it will come back to normal. I cannot figure out what is causing this. I only exit to the main title, not the Steam menu. Speaking of Steam, when that option is unavailable, I can't invite people via the friendslist, it's as if I am not able to host the server whatsoever. It's odd.

@Lenny Lettuce Lips Red is the setting, turn it off or to scale. If scale, adjust the Resolution Scale percent below (lower = blurrier the textures are). It may be off already and is just depth of field like Roland said, but see if it is regardless. For those curious, dynamic res on scale reduces the resolution of textures while leaving your UI/text resolution the same as the set resolution (making it easier to read/stuff).

What @Jugginator said. The log in issue is probably a steam issue with privileges (private profile with  restricted visibility or absent or invisible friend status... etc) Those restrictions can come from any of the members of your party.

The animal one is probably just an overkill. Sometimes it's difficult to perceive if the animals are dead, and you keep shooting while they are corpses. Unfortunately they are not like Zd corpses with 1000hp and only have 100-300hp so with just a couple of shots of a good weapon they go pooff.

Worsens with many people shooting at it or with high yield damage weapons. An extra shot can make a vulture dissapear. Also, even if by a couple of miliseconds, internet ping can make clients see a creature react juust a tiny bit later and when it does it adds all the damage of the extra shots and poof.

What guns are you using to kill the animals?  I find if I use a shotgun with regular shells then the body tends to disappear before I can harvest it.  I believe this is due to having so many pellets hit the target that a few will kill it and then the rest will be overkill.
