Broken Tree planting, why?

Hi folks, I noticed something disturbing, and wanted to see if it is just me, or has anyone else noticed this.

It used to be, that a tree could be planted anywhere I placed a single block of topsoil. This was really good for me, as that meant I could plant trees up on the roof of my buildings, and play in their shade.

However, ever since v2.0, the tree so planted, are defaulting down to the ground below, even if that ground is now a solid cobblestone foundation.

Why was this done?

Hello, can anyone help me out here,my eyesight is failing, and the ability to "fight in the shade" has helped me keep playing, but why did v2.0 break the planting of trees in a patch of topsoil?

I've never planted trees above ground, but if it worked before and not now, then it's probably a bug. Report it in the bug reports forum and maybe they can fix it. It might be fine here, but people adding stuff to their internet bug reports list are mostly watching the bug reports forum.

Logs would be useful too.
My eyes are really bad now, so I would need someone to watch my screen share, and walk my through that process. here is where I typically plant my Oak trees on the roof.

These trees are just planted, and they used to be able to grow up to fully mature and shade providing trees. Once the bug/change was done, I'll post a new image, showing what happens instead.

Here is a ground level view, looking up at the rooftop where the seedlings are planted.Looking up at that roof from the ground.jpg
I'll post an image with them fully grown later. Hope this can be fixed, and thanks for the help.

Here is an image after the trees are starting to grow.

As can be seen, no trees are growing on the rooftop, but instead, there are trees growing at ground level, despite the fact that this building, has a solid 7 block high foundation, with each story of the base being built on that foundation.

The first floor (built on a 7 block high solid foundation), is the crafting base, and above that are my farming floors, and then on the roof, my chopper and the trees.

Ahha!

I tried to verify my files, did it twice, and the second try went through will flying colors. I am not the host in the game I posted about, but will now rejoin my own private game, and see if the trees work in that game, and then make a new game , and try it there,

Thanks for the help.
