Brass

I can't seem to get enough brass to smelt, I'm smelting everything I'm looting, just not enough to keep up with the demand for ammunition production. Any good reliable sources of brass I'm not aware of? Right now I'm reliant on random loot drops and scrapping radiators.

Thanks!

Generally I have ammo pouring out of my ears (I had a couple thousand rounds of 7.62 by my day 14 horde without crafting a single bullet in my last run), but first thing would be not to scrap the radiators, you lose 25% that way. Also, there's a Strength mastery perk (iirc) that gives you brass when mining ores.

If nothing else, you can always smelt dukes.

There is a book that gives you brass if you knock down doors. Wasteland Treasures series. Also you can smelt duke coins for brass. Those small ball valves with the red handle give you brass, the green banker desklamp, outsides lights, brass faucets, candelabras. There is also a Wasteland Treasure book that let´s you find more brass in loot.

And do not scrap things that are brass, like the doorknobs, radiators and such. Smelt them directly in the forge, gives you more brass that way.

As mentioned, you can use a perk or books to improve your brass loot, but you may also just want to consider why you need to craft so much. I haven't crafted ammo in a really long time. Granted, I use spears mostly now, but even before, I stopped crafting ammo not long after I started playing the game. There is just so much ammo in loot that there really isn't a need. About the only time I think it can become an issue is if you are using full auto machine guns all the time. And at that point, you have to balance what you can craft with how much ammo you spend in those.

Good stuff, thanks!

I play with a group of friends and some are more active than others. We'll do the blood moon together and some will run out of ammo. I like to keep a healthy stock on hand so I don't have to worry them running out.

The number of players shouldn't matter much. As long as everyone scavenges (or most do), they'll all be finding ammo, so you will find more than you would solo anyhow. But if it is a problem for your group, try to find those books and get the perk for whoever does go scavenging and ask them to scrap the different brass objects and bring back the ones that can be smelted. You should have no trouble getting enough brass. There are a lot of things that scrap for brass, like those that were mentioned above.

As it goes, when I need something I can never find it. When I don't, I find it constantly. Twisted game 😔
That's true with RNG-found items, but brass is literally everywhere in the game world. I'm actually annoyed that they added a chance to mine brass with points in the strength tree. Not only is there a ton of brass already, but mining brass is not a thing. Brass isn't mined, it's created by combining different ores.

To the OP, as others have said, make sure you get the proper books that allow you to find more brass in loot and in harvesting doors. Loot trash piles as there is a good chance to find brass there as well. And despite this game being set in Arizona, there are a stupid amount of radiators inside POIs. Wrench them, smelt them.

I see people complain about polymer too, how they need a lot to make dew collectors. Harvesting just tires alone gives me tons, but then again I clean every street and POI I come across and leave nothing behind.

Yeah. I think a lot of people don't scrap very many things they find in the world so miss out on a lot of stuff that is easy to find. Of course, neither do I. Lol! But I find so much polymer that it is always just stacking up in the crate. It is everywhere. 😁 Of course, I also loot trash piles and trash cans regularly, and there is a lot there.

No trash left behind.

Put a point in salvage ops, grab a wrench/ratchet/impact driver, pop a Hackers candy, then start tearing down every car in sight. Scrap/smelt the mountain of radiators you end up with

If this is a 2.0 playthru...are you using melee at all? Because when my crew and I would run low on ammo, we would just hit up T2-3 infestation quests and melee our way thru to replenish ammo stocks. It was only insufficient when we went from 4 to 6 folks right before a BM so the extra people on guns helped to gobble up all our ammo

You know you have a problem if you constantly are stopping to loot trash piles to and from trader missions....not that I am saying this from experience mind you 😏
I'm constantly getting off my vehicle to loot bird's nests, even when I have thousands of feathers and no longer need eggs for cooking.

...I might have a problem.

You just want a huge feather bed and an omelet. Perfectly understandable. 😁

Somehow usually after 30 hours or so on a map, I have several stacks of brass and thousands of ammo rounds of each type.

I am really not sure how players run out of brass.

I guess because I play with a viable melee option, I am swimming in ammo, as others have said.

This is situational simply due to inventory management. Raw Brass stacks to 6000, not sure of the conversion but that's an inventory full of radiators....

I generally always sell my Raw Brass, it sells for more dukes than radiators, but that's outside the OP's question.

I think you do not take into consideration the players who do not play with melee weapons, in which I include myself, it is true that it is a little scarce sometimes, but it is compensated with the loot and ammo boxes. --I haven't tried the new skill yet.

Not really. Like I said, I used to do entirely ranged without trouble. It may have been awhile since I used to do that, but ammo loot has actually increased since then thanks to infested quests. Running out of ammo usually comes from either using a lot of turrets that use the same ammo type you do, or using a full auto weapon and just showering ammo everywhere instead of being precise with your shots, or wasting a lot of ammo by shooting at bodies instead of heads, or multiple players all using the same ammo type, or simply not doing a lot of scavenging or questing. There are ways to avoid most of that being a problem, but there's nothing wrong with crafting ammo.
