I know there is a thread here on this but it was in 2014 so as far as A17.4, is there a way to make a bookcase and or why is there not a paint texture for this? I see they included the pill case texture but why leave out a bookcase texture?

I am one of those guys that like to complete my base with aesthetically pleasing surroundings, I mean why not have a nice looking base if you have the time in between looting and other things.

Maybe the traders might have one I can buy.

 
Madmole was mentioning a feature they are thinking about where you can wrench off decorative blocks (like the book cases, lamps, flower pots) in POIs so you can install them in your base.

Maybe a feature that might surface in A19

How about replacing one paint texture with a custom one, I searched for .dds and there is none in the game folder and .png and .jpg are something different, maybe its not possible?

I remember ID had .pak files and Half Life 2 had something similar and I needed a utility to unpack them.

I found one at a trader but I do not know yet if it will hold anything, it may be just for looks. I will find out when I build my final base.

 
Good news #1: there is only one bookcase (among non-Dev blocks). If you bought a bookcase, it will be a loot container that holds items.

Good news #2: while you may not be able to paint a books texture on whatever you want, you can paint your bookcase with any texture(s) available.

Good news #3: Alpha 18 will have new HD textures for bookcases and other stuff.
