PC Bad Mechanic

So my wifey and I decided to try playing a 7 day on the road. We were excited by the idea, talked about how we were going to strategically do it for 2 days. So we figured out a road to use, eliminated cars on the path and said path took us through a city to an area were we going to turn around at and head back to the base. We were going to start the night on the truck, fight til we couldn't, drive up a ways, one would shoot zombies coming up the road and the other would try to keep the sides and front clear. When things got hot we would get in the truck and go up a ways...rinse and repeat.

That night we started on top of the truck, things went south quick so we hopped in the truck. This is when things became apparent that this game was not going to allow us to enjoy something different for THE TRUCK JUST BOUNCED UP AND DOWN. We died, spawned at the base and finished the 7 day. After the mess was cleaned up we both agreed that the bouncing was the most un immersive mechanic tripe ever put into a game. We are both in our 50's so combined we have played many, many games over the years starting with the Atari and to agree that nothing has ever compared to this is telling.

8's are wild, Monopoly backwards, baseball with apples.  Who cares if I do any of those things? Seriously. if people want to try and play the game on the road instead of...GASP...the base I am sick of looking at who am I really bothering? We are at 140 days now and having this one little spark of fun stomped on was just the most irritating thing I have encountered...it was anger inducing in fact. Frustration is expected in any game but for me to become angry at a game is something I have never experienced.

I am not certain how much more we can play this game! Wave after wave will die on spikes, guns, barbed wire and electric fences. Early game excitement has turned into a job. Get iron, make steel/ iron bars and become base invincible. Food is no longer an issue. Water is no longer an issue and now the zombies are no longer an issue.  I guess what I am saying is the name is FunPimps....prove it because a few more zombie types, some POIs or whacky weather isn't going to fix things. Battling on the road on a 7 night? Sign me up for that.

I've never seen this happen, and I'm about 100% confident it's not intentional. You probably had a zed stuck/glitched inside the vehicle and that caused some physics issues.

What is supposed to happen when you use vehicles in horde night, is, spawning in lots and lots of fast birds. Another proposed mechanic has been to sporadically disable engines during a horde.. but nothing in the class of "demonic possession of your wheels". That might be funny thou, when you approach your car during horde, it'll try to drive over you .. :)

Thanks for sharing the detailed story but the big question is: Did you create a bug report?

As has been said, that is not normal behavior.  I've driven around on horde night without any such issues, though you'll end up attacked by vultures if you try it so it isn't a good way to stay away from enemies.  The best I've managed with using a vehicle during horde night was to barely move at all or go very far.  I just tapped gas a little and stayed in the relative vicinity and didn't seem to generate the vultures.  It gave me enough time to deal with repairs or heal before jumping into the fight again.  But I wouldn't really recommend that either because it's just really boring compared to needing to fight all night.

If you had this happen, then it's a bug.  Submit a bug report and make sure you include your log file from when it happened.  And if you have any mods installed, keep in mind that one of those may be the cause of the problem.

I had a friend who was running late getting back to the base for horde night. His gyrocopter was swarmed by vultures and he perished. Since they, I've known vehicles aren't good for an extended horde night. You might get away with a short drive.

That said, I've done mobile horde nights, but I do them on foot. They can be a lot of fun. You can go up and back on a road, run a loop around a skyscraper, or I like to run a loop around the industrial tile with an underpass. If you want, you can prepare a few places to be able to make a brief stand while you eat and drink or maybe apply meds.

A key part of the "survival tower defense" game is engaging with the horde.  Players can build a base, abuse an existing POI, or run around outside battling the horde.

Players have come up with several novel and unintended ways to avoid engaging the horde.  You have discovered one of them, vehicles.  Hence, players cannot out run the horde in vehicles. ( I like one of the mods where vehicles "go dead" on horde day or at 1800 hours)

Had you picked any structure, a wall, a trailer, a POI, other than your truck you would have been fine (well as long as you could handle the horde).

I suspect much like your first horde base your road idea had issues waiting to be discovered.  Take this experience as a good learning point.

So much anger that could have been averted simply by asking whether such strange behavior might be a glitch instead of assuming it was intended.

If your plan is to alternate between driving and getting out to kill zombies and then drive on spending the 7th day horde on the road, that should definitely be possible. The truck should not bounce up and down stationary but it won’t be able to fully outrun the horde night enemies. You’ll have to jump out periodically and clean up the spawns before jumping back in and driving on.

The only time my 4x4 bounced is when I clip a burnt-out car, or hit large debris in the ruined biome, at full speed ( super charge mod ). Yes, I'm insane. No, I should never drive you - WAAAGH ! RED GO FASTA !

Anyway, as others have said, it sounds if something glitched into the vehicle. Riding a vehicle at night is viable, but you need to decide when to stop-and-fight or run-like-hell.
