Also, in case you didn't already know, any item that can be crafted will have a Crafting icon above the item description. 
Clicking on that icon will reveal the recipe assuming you've unlocked the ability to craft it. If you haven't unlocked it yet, the same icon should show you how to unlock it (usually by crafting skill magazines or schematic).
You can also do the reverse, as in seeing what the item you are inspecting can be used for. Just click on any item and press A to see what recipes use that item.
