Armor needs another pass.

I was thinking recently - the new armor sets could use another pass. Some bonuses just aren't on theme, and the number of some bonuses accross multiple sets feels not only un-thematic, but redundant. Here's what I came up with today, off the top of my head:

LIGHT ARMOR

Lumberjack
This set is for the most part, satisfactory. The gloves bonus (axe damage increased) just isn't enough to make axes into even quasi-viable melee weapons. It should be changed to block damage vs wood. The boots' bonus (sprinting stamina depletes slower) feels a little odd, though it could be argued for "getting out of the way from falling trees" is what TFP were going for. I'm not quite sure what I'd replace it with.

Preacher
This set is pretty on-point. No changes suggested.

Rogue

Another great set that ticks all of the theme boxes. No changes suggested.

Athletic

Uh.. hmm. This is a tough one. The shoes are fine, as are the gloves. The outfit fits well enough too, but that hat bonus.. Gotta go. How about stamina depletes slower while sprinting? The bartering bonus for food, drinks, and meds feels a little too specific compared to the three other pieces we have that give flat bartering bonuses.

Enforcer

Another tough one - it's okay I guess. I can see the glasses' bartering bonus as the character "intimidating" the trader into adjusting prices. Maybe the glvoes could have a bonus to knife damage instead of lowering fuel consumption?

MEDIUM ARMOR

Farmer

Great set, just like the Lumberjack set. No changes suggested.

Biker

A great melee-oriented set of medium armor. No changes suggested.

Scavenger

Like the other gathering/harvesting sets so far, Another fantastic set that suits the theme. No changes suggested.

Ranger

Jesus, this one's just boring and disappointing. Let's make it a hunting set. The hat, instead of yet another bartering bonus, could grant additional meat and animal fat when harvesting animals and gore piles. The outfit could make it so stamina depletes slower while aiming with a scoped weapon. The gloves are stuck in mid-tier, so let's just make it encompass rifles as a whole, and change the revolver damage bonus to bows. Same for the set bonus - rifles and bows. Boots could offer a stealth bonus when crouched.

Commando

Once again, no changes suggested, as it's a great set that's on theme.

Assassin

Same here - no changes suggested. It already fits its theming perfectly.

HEAVY ARMOR

Miner

Once again, an on-theme gathering set. Only thing I'd change is the boots. Safe falling height? In a mine? Let's make that reduced cave-in damage instead.

Nomad

Pretty good set, it's going for "the wandering survivor" theme. But it seems to want to focus on wasteland survival. The helmet's great, as are the gloves. Boots are fine too. The outfit though.. kinda boring. How about reduced radiation damage from zombies?

Nerd

As ugly as this set is.. it's pretty on theme. No changes suggested.

Raider

Oh hey, it's the Biker set, but heavier! It's a fantastic set overall, though the "safe falling height" bonus on the boots makes no sense here. Falling in heavy armor would NOT protect you from falling. If anything, you'd fall faster and probably hurt yourself worse. Not quite sure what I'd replace it with, but that fall height bonus needs to go. Maybe make it so zombies can't move you?

So, that's my suggestions. I doubt the devs will look at this, but I hope they do. If anyone has 2 cents to chip in here, please add your suggestions/thoughts/input!

No changes for Preacher? The gloves are silly as.

I might suggest lowering the damage bonus a bit to be more in line with other "increase damage" bonuses, but it's not like they'll be granting bonus damage to bandits or living animals.

Eh... until bandits actually show up, which could be a year or more (cue "or never!" jokes), I wouldn't balance the game around them.

I would give it buffs from Assassin as well aside from gloves due to it being another stealth armor

However you sacrifice protection for extra buffs

I would also buff chainsaws too be better and I would give it a damage bonus with other two handed weapons/tools. Kinda like a construction worker set but I love the boots effects

Old Crow said:
Agreed

I would give

hat less food and water usesage and better stamina renfen speed

Chest: keep the same with a minor attack speed buff

Gloves keep the same and reduced stamina with melee attacks

Boots are perfect

I'm iffy about Preacher

The hat would give 4% base too buying rather then 2

The chest gives both damage to undead and resistance

Gloves help with healing to you and others and increase damage with int weapons

Old Crow said:
Agreed with Gloves I would make it increase club damage cuz it's like a billy club.

But the boots I would make it take less damage when standing still

Old Crow said:
It needs too be more combat effective.

The hat would increase food effects and seed finding

Chest gives extra crops and increase healing output with food

Gloves give 10% increase rifle damage and another chance for extra crops

Boots are fine

Scavenger
I would the hat a increase Loot bonus like the Rouge hood

Chest gives extra space and increase harvest speed

Old Crow said:
I would change the boots too not movement speed but maybe increase reload speed.

Old Crow said:
We already talked about this to death lol 100% Agreed

I would make boots..deal more damage when standing still. With both tools and weapons

My favorite set and it's so @%$#.

I would add a headshot bonus with the helmet and food reduction

Chest is less from special zombies and carry weight

Boots.... reduce damage from zombies

Gloves I would increase damage to rads and specials by 20% so it's more of a specialist build

Agreed.

I mean nothing in this game would make you fall farther in real life.  The fall damage protection (in my head-cannon) comes from reinforced ankles and proper arch support.  To me this is the best armor in the game, and my go-to.

I know someone else suggested the athletic hat should reduce food and water usage, i definitely like that.  I would also like the drug effects last longer.

You don't understand how damage works then if you're being serious here.
Lumberjack gloves at Q6 add a whopping 15 BASE damage, this means the iron fire axe deals DOUBLE damage, and the steel axe a little more than 50% damage.
And, just as a little bonus fun fact, Q6 LJ gloves makes the stone axe MUCH better than the baseball bat, increasing its base damage from 6 to 21, compared to the bats 20, plus it attack twice as fast!

Q6 preacher gloves are weaker if you're using axes for killing
