Hello,

im curios if anyone has had any success generating a 16k map on a hosted server and if so what seed are you using?

It works but takes a crapload of time and you need 16GB ram to have it run well, if you have ssds and 6 core cpu a few hours to generate map.

IT TAKES FOREVER. but it does work. imagine waiting a couple hours or over night to get in the server lol. 10k maps seems to be better.

It will de-sync while playing even after you get it working.

For reference, my server is a Dell PowerEdge R710 with two Intel Xeon X5675 CPU's @3.07GHz, 80GB of ECC paired RAM, and 4 SSD's in RAID1. (The SSD's are literally almost as fast as the RAM in data transfer speeds.) Building the map took a little over half an hour, and required close to 32GB RAM with a 25% CPU load. (more load than I have running 8 servers)

Playing on a local gigabit network, it takes about 3 minutes to log in initially, and a little over a minute afterwards. After playing for roughly half an hour the de-sync with the server is horribad, and makes it almost unplayable. With a 400mbps internet connection, it takes the average player almost 10 minutes for the initial download, and 3-5 minutes to connect every time. They de-sync in 10-20 minutes.

10k maps are pretty sweet right now though. Literally takes a minute for the first connection, and 20-30 seconds every time afterwards.

Players with limited memory on their computer will not be able to join. The client currently will load ~16GB or more of data on server join, thrash the swap file, and frequently crash. I have 32GB in my box and I can join a server with a 16K map and play just fine, but until they optimize client memory usage on large maps, most people won't be able to play on it reliably.

I am, with no issues other than the map taking a really long time to download the first time people join, and maybe 1 minute load times after that

so far havent had any issues with people unable to join, although we all have modern custom built gaming PC's

It will work fine if the client has enough memory. It's the poor souls with only 8GB that really suffer....
