Side Note: I made a general post in the V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary about my excitement for 2.0 and the various things my imagination came up with. Then I was reminded that the Pimp Dreams sub forums is a thing! So I'll try to break up each idea into its own thread to keep the conversations focused and the likes/dislikes meaningful.

I've been around since... I want to say Alpha 15 (maybe? its been a while). I want lead with that I know this desire and direction of this has changed a few times. At the end of the day, it is less of a priority when compared to zombies and bandits.

  • Minions / Followers


    It still would be fun to be able to tame an animal for use in exploring the world.
  • Combat and non-combatant followers
  • No inventory by default (animal must be equipped with a bag/saddle/container mod)
  • What happens at 0 HP?


    Drop storage as a bag? Does it stay on them? Make it configurable like a player or treat the same as a robotic drone?
  • Permanent death?
  • Return to bedroll with cooldown? What if you don't have an active bed roll or land claim?
  • NPC in any trader compound can restore? Maybe just Trader Jen. Medicine is her thing. She is a doctor, not a vet, but maybe each trader could have an apprentice trader that handles things in the same theme but are different. Can traders this large maintain a compound all on their own?



[*]Pets


  • It would be fun to have non-aggressive animals around the base that don't despawn (I think Minecraft uses name tags for this purpose?).
  • Need to be able to set a limit on this to keep players from bringing a server (multi- or single player) to its knees. Even if the server survives, a game client might not.

    Configurable


    Server owners can disable animal features, including the presence of certain non-core animals

[*]Domestic (non-zombie) dog (neutral versions and aggressive/feral versions regardless of breed)

[*]Zombie animals can't be tamed

[*]Tamable Forest Biome Animals: Dogs / Wolves

[*]Chicken Coop


  • For people who actively avoid Reckt and have bad luck with loot/nests/other traders
  • Late game living off the land option for eggs
  • Treat the same as a plant in a farm plot or a dew collector
  • Takes longer than growing plants for there to be something to harvest
  • Eggs only.


    Unless there is a new use for feathers, The coop does not drop feathers. Zombie vultures give enough access to feathers.
  • Giving meat/animal fat/bones might be too over powered, so stick with eggs
  • Not intended to be an animal breeding mechanic

[*]I personally don't have a problem with getting eggs in the late game with the way the game currently is, but it is a take on chicken coops that may be different from others. I'm sure I am not the first to suggest it.





[*]V?.0 Animals v2...?


  • More animals over time. You know someone is going to want to tame a bear.





Goals: It should be immersive, but fun. Challenging, not annoying. Manageable, but not exploitable. It should not take away from the fact that this is a zombie game.
