Ammo and other items consumed from top slots down, should be from bottom up

Having the ability to lock inventory slots is great, although as others have said, a visual indication of which slots are locked would be nice. My only real wish for an improvement to the inventory system is a change to the order of consumption of items. Let's use 7.62 ammo as an example. If I'm going around with my M60 and I have 3 or 4 stacks of 7.62 in my first protected slots but I find more ammo along the way, new stacks are created outside my protected slots. No problem so far. But then I hose down a few dozen zombies and the ammo gets consumed from the first protected slot, leaving it empty. Now I go and pick up some other loot and it fills the first available slot - the one that used to have 7.62 in it. Now that loot is protected when I get back to my storage crate and drop stuff off. I have to go over my protected slots and make sure this hasn't happened to any items. To me, this seems to partially negate the benefit of protected slots. Another minor gripe with the current system is I often find I have a partial stack of ammo from loot and a partial stack that is being consumed from reloading and the two would combine into a single slot, saving precious space. If ammo were consumed in reverse looting order, this would not be an issue.

To resolve this, I propose a change to the way ammo is consumed. I think it should be consumed from the last slot and work backward in reverse order of loot filling. In this way, if I've scavenged up some more ammo that will get used up first leaving my core reserves untouched. Another way to address this could be to have protected slots only fill up with loot if all other slots are filled, similar to how the toolbelt behaves. It occurs to me that if protected slots behaved more like toolbelt slots, they could remember the last item in them so that if I picked up more 7.62 it would go to an empty slot that last contained that ammo.

Going even further, though it would be a big ask, perhaps we could even get something like a loadout system where we could designate what we want in certain slots so that when returning to base we could go into a crate and click "refill" and designated slots would restock in the character inventory with water, food, meds, ammo, or whatever we configured in the loadout.

I never paid much attention to this until today when my top locked slots got occupied with something else when my ammo was gone.
for now I just moved and locked all my ammo to the bottom row.
I wasn't looking for this thread but funny coming across it by accident the same day I whined about it. lol
