Alpha 21.2(b37) Mountain terrain reset issue.

Hello. I spent many hours designing my ultimate base in Alpha 21.2(b37). Knowing that V1.0 was coming, I followed the directions to save the game files to two different hard drives to ensure I could keep my base.

Steam forced me to update to 1.0 stable, and then I reverted back to Alpha 21.2(b37). After doing so, my base was still intact and there were no issues. I had not played in awhile and when I logged in today, the side of the mountain where I built had reset itself, cutting off 1/4 of my work. This has never happened before.....

I tried overwriting the save files once again but the portion of my wall to the right remains reset by the mountain seen here: https://ibb.co/NY4TtLf

What can I do to fix this? to prevent this? to STOP this? If this is something that will just occur into the future, I may just uninstall forever. What is the point of building opulent structures if all are at risk of being wiped.....

Thanks in advance.

A reset of a chunk usually happens if the game or PC crashes or some other error or bug creates a corrupted save. Restoring from an older backup of that savegame should fix this.

(Hint: If you restore from a backup it is preferable to first delete the savegame you want to replace so that no files from that savegame stay behind when overwriting. In this case I doubt it makes a difference, but it may be worth a try.)

So theoretically your method should have worked. You'll have to find out why not:

Did you really back up the savegame or did you back up the world files instead?

Are you sure the backup is from a time where you had the base finished and correct and not from afterwards? Maybe the one time you checked after reverting was the time the savegame became corrupted and you made a backup afterwards. That backup would have been too late then.

Did you really use the correct savegame location? Check your logfiles whether the game loads from the location you would expect. Or simply delete the old savegame and start the game, the savegame should be gone now. Stop the game, install the backup, the savegame should be there again

Hi Meganoth, thanks for the reply. I saved the entire folder from the AppData>Roaming>7DaysToDie folder which included:

- GeneratedWorlds

- logs

- Saves

- SavesLocal

- Screenshots

- titlesotrage

- Twitch

- launchersettings.json

When I fully delete existing data there, then reload the saved folder, the savegame date shows 7-2-24 which was accurate to when the building was stable and the last time I was playing. Upon last shutdown back in July there were no crashes I was aware of, no mods, just creative mode single player. I definitely accessed and played the game a few times after saving to alternate HDD's back in July. I also tried updating to V1.0 again, and then back to 21.2(b37) with the same result, just the one chunk missing.

A log file may provide a clue, but the game doesn't touch old saves on updates. If you were playing on Navezgane... maybe Steam didn't revert the changes done to it?
