Has anyone else noticed, that if you're crouched down hiding in a closed off house, not on horde night, zombies will try to break in, and if you sneak out through a back way, they'll stop wailing on the building? Alternatively, if you crank up the gamma correction and watch the Zeds walking around in the pitch of night, they'll come within a few blocks of you, but not be able to detect you?

If the game has a director AI which informs the Zombies of my general location to within a few blocks, but the Zed's routine's don't make them aware, that's still a little cheaty, don't you think? And I doubt it's a breadcrumb system as they stop the millisecond I open a back door, try to coming around to seek me; then when I can't find them, or am testing, and slip back in the front way, they go back to hitting the exact block they were before near the front door.... Very cheaty.

Cheaty?

Exactly how do you think AI's work?

Of course the AI always knows where you are.

The idea is to alter the behaviour of the AI so that it mimics stumbling and searching and all the things we associate with zombies roaming around.

If the AI didn't always know your location the game wouldn't work very well.

Clearly there's some work to be done with A17's AI.

It's brand new and is going to take awhile to get right.

HOW they get it to work really isn't important though is it? As long as it works.

Personally I find it fascinating to get a peek like you did at how it's working behind the scenes.

You've got a good eye there.

Personally I enjoy catching stuff like that.

I guess not for everyone though.

im not sure what you are saying is cheaty or how its cheaty. yes the game, and by extension the zombies, know exactly where you are at all times. the 'ai' is how they make it seem like they dont know where you are. they seem to allow the zombies to hear you better than they see you, and the pathfinding can end up with weird choices. it almost sounds like they alerted to a sound you made, then once they heard the door they check that out, door closes and takes away their path so they go back to making a path thru the walls(or they shifted to area destruction since they had no path to you)
