PC A17 - Most Fun I've Had Since A10!!

I'm a member of the 1,000 hour club and A10 was my first experience with the game. The first hundred hours were the best and after numerous alphas I never thought I'd get that initial joy again. Then A17 came along.

I'm addicted to this game again, and here's why:

#1: The new PoI designs complete with sleeper zombies and traps and hidden caches, etc. are spectacular!

#2: The sense of danger is ever present! In previous alphas I never feared the zeds, but even at level 30+ I'm terrified when exploring PoIs! I actually die sometimes now. I don't think I've died in a game since A12 (seriously).

#3: Trader Quests: We've had epic adventures completing trader quests. Our first experience with a Tier 2 quest was legendary.

#4: Perks and Skills: In previous alphas I never put points into anything but scavenger and quality joe, now I'm interested in buying all sorts of stuff. Has more of an RPG feel now.

#5: Day 7 hordes are something to fear! In previous alphas I would literally be afk during day 7 hordes while camping on some rooftop. However, we barely survived day 14 in one of my recent games.

#6: The sense of progression is the best its ever been, imo

#7: The new zombie AI is great. Even gunfire attracts them now. Makes me feel like I'm really in a zombie apocalypse!

There are some things I don't like, of course, but overall A17 has been a knock-it-out-of-the-park home run from my perspective.

I wish I shared your enthusiasm. I enjoy it, but would enjoy it a ton more with better RWG maps and no level locks.

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) Yes, but i don´t like the trader beeing a substitute for the early forge. I was so happy when i realized forge is way later now, but then i found out about the trader having all the stuff. Meh. It´s not really hard to get money with all the guns everywhere.

4) Absolutly no. No clue why you didn´t bother with skill in A16 tbh. T-Rex and Miner were a must if you hate grinding. (I will never understand people who like the grinding itself, but hey, if you have fun it´s all good)

It´s easy to say the new one is better, when you didn´t even try to use the old one properly.

5) Again your choice here, you could have a blast of a hordenight in A16 already. Not on a rooftop tough. And it´s Z´s ofc you should be safe for one night high up on a roof. The Z´s shouldn´t be the only deadly challenge.

Can´t really tell enough about A17 and blood moon, the one i had was easy to play, just removed

stairs in a POI, some spikes and room to shoot from the first floor to the ground floor. Same as in A16 tbh. But i only had one so far.

6) Nope, it´s all about killing, killing and more killing. 1 step towards FPS 2 steps away from the genremix.

7) Better than ever. But we gotta see how this turns out after a while, when we get used to all the changes.

I'm not hugely far into A17 yet, but so far I'm loving the direction too. It's nice to actually feel threatened by a horde and not feel 100% safe in an impenetrable fortress, I actually have to defend my base now! The POI's are just awesome, so much fun. The RWG looks great too, much more organic, but is missing the biome variation and randomisation and downtown sections (as long as that is updated in A17 I'm happy), but what is there looks good. Max stamina degradation could be eased off slightly, but that's what experimental is all about.

I agree with the max stam degradation, it goes down far to fast when your doing things, I would like the biome variation to be better but then again the maps are also much smaller. The stam drop is only a issue really when you have low max stam, when you have 150 or higher, or hell even 130, you can let it drop a bit and still be ok.
