PC A17.4 solar panel power draw affecting frame rates

I figured something out today regarding solar panels. If they just have enough power to run my stuff, I get a massive stutter/frame rate instability. If I turn off the solar panel, the frame rates come right back up. If I add another solar cell to give it some "room", the frame rates go back up. Interesting effect. It doesn't matter if I add too many light bulbs or turrets. As soon as I reach close to the power draw cap, instant nasty frame rates.

Thoughts? Anyone else experience this?

I have a dedicated server that hosts the game. It doesn't seem to matter if one or more people are on the server at the time. Mind you, we normally have upwards of 16 people that play on the server at a time with no issues. We're talking from 80+ FPS, but then wildly fluctuates between single digits up to around 40 FPS when the power is nearing cap. It is an "instant" effect. One extra light bulb and bam...

I've heard TFP say multiple times they couldn't reproduce the problem with the solar panels.

Now possibly the bug shows up with any setup where supply and draw are matched, possibly there are other conditions that have to be fullfilled as well.

Therefore the best thing to do would be posting a bug report with a short description and offering to put your save on a cloud server if they have problems reproducing it

this also happened in 16.4 on a dedicated, for all my players, still happening now, and no one uses solar anymore

Good call - I can reproduce it so it would be good for them hopefully.

I reported this months ago: IT IS AN ISSUE. co-op game, plenty of beef behind the hosting machine, supply/draw NOT MATCHED, but any time the batteries were charging MASSIVE lag spikes would hit the frame rate. Like reducing it to dingle digits every few seconds or so.

I heard nothing. But it IS a problem. To the extent where I don't do solar anymore.

I reported this months ago:
Yeah, but the important question is: Could the TFP testers reproduce it? Some time ago they said no.

Without a real test case finding a bug is akin to finding a needle in a hay stack by just looking at it.
