A bear should not evaporate when I shoot it in the head with an exploding arrow.

Okay, it doesn't need to leave me a red prezzy. I can live with that. But I should be able to harvest bear stuff.

I was so ■■■■ed off, shot a mountain lion out of spite and harvested it. Didn't use an exploding arrow.

I like cats, I don't like shooting them. I don't like shooting bears either but he was hovering around the coal seam I wanted in the Canadian region. Put me out of sorts, almost froze to death hunting blueberries and yetis.

Bad hair day in Canada.

I've never shot any animal in the head with anything that explodes but........... my head tells me that this is reasonable.

That's for anything that absolutely positively has to die in the first shot.

Did you use to much gunpowder when making the arrows? :ROFLMAO:

I agree 100% with that. Did it die when you shot it in the head with an exploding arrow? I've never shot one. @ElCabong did you mean that it shouldn't die by that or the body disappeared when the arrow hit it?

It evaporated so I can only assume it is dead. They should die when I shoot them in the head with an exploding arrow. I used to hunt dire wolves and zombie bears for the leather. Then they started dropping red bags so people began to hunt them for the red bags. I think this is why they evaporate now.

Hmm, I think explosives got some love in a recent patch; but I use them so rarely that I can't say for sure when or what. Mostly just watching youtubers blowing things up, the amount of dismembered zeds seemed to skyrocket at some point. That might happen in plenty of ways, either straight up damage buffs, dismemberment buffs, OR a change in targeting.

A change in targeting could be hitting the same target repeatedly, and thus breaking the corpse easily.

Or, alternatively, maybe the explosion is separate from the arrow damage and you killed the teddy with the arrow head dismember, and the following explosion deletes the carcass. Would of course be very inconsistent in testing.

Either shouldn't effect the loot bag drops though, so doubt it has anything to do with those.

I prefer burning arrows, something about watching them burn to death is satisfying 😅

So when is using an exploding arrow not cheese?
It's not; the speculation about that being an anti-cheese mechanic seems quite premature; I have seen no indication that it's even intentional. It's just a weird interaction with some changes having been into the exploding arrows, in other words, a likely bug.

Have you tried again, does it repeat every time, or was it just a single occasion?

I did it this morning on a zombie bear because I needed testosterone to make a cig. The bear did not evaporate and I harvested it for what I needed. I'm not sure what's going on.

Sounds like you just decapped the first teddy with the arrow hit, and then the explosion deleted the corpse.

Which makes me think, would be fun to have the exploding arrows stick to the target for a proper couple seconds before blowing up... :)

It would charge at you and if you didn't get away fast enough you might get killed when it blew up. Great idea, I like that. Lol
