Wildly inappropriate mobs appearing

On Day 2 of a new default-difficulty 2.0 game, while doing a new tier 0 POI (non-quest) in the starting Forest biome and city, I found a feral zombie bear in the basement of the POI, which of course immediately killed me. Today, I'm on Day 14, doing a normal tier 2 POI quest at The Animal Hoarder, still in the same starting Forest biome and city, there is a Dire Wolf guarding the treasure room. This is completely crazy - these animals should not be appearling in the Forest biome.

Reproduction Steps
This appears to be a randomly generated mob, not easily reproducible.

Oh yeah we had the same mob nearby our house, he lived in a farmshed guarding nothing but an old backpack and slept there :0 he killed me about 4 times on the first day

There are certain POI that you need to watch out for. Animal hoarder specifically says to beware the dog. It's a good warning, but people ignore it. The chance of that dire wolf spawning is very low. If you are talking about the bear den POI, that is also normal. Sure, you didn't want to do those right away, but after you have seen them, you aren't going to be surprised by then again and can skip then if you want. I don't mind unexpected surprised. Besides, bears and wolves and the old dire wolves used to roam the forest. It is "easy mode" these days.

In any case, these aren't bugs.

Sadly that's normal. It's kind of a big "F You" throwing that into a T2 poi, especially when you're questing there at a much lower level with a crappy pipe weapon.

Well, if TFP considers this "not a bug", then I'd like for TFP to explain to the community why a guaranteed 1-shot kill should be considered "normal". I think the discussion could get a little heated.

The T0 with a zombie bear might be a bit much, but running into a dire wolf on day 14 doesn't seem like a problem to me.

I think rare telegraphed hard POI spawns are fine. You can always run away from stuff in a city, possibly using some spikes to slow it down.
Unfriendly to newbies, but nowhere near "guaranteed kill".
Rare is important keyword, some unplanned excitement is good if it does not interfere with the grind.

Floor Holes of Doom are way more dangerous.

I had four screamers appear on day 4 and brought numerous hoards. Was not a heat issue as I had not used any fire, forge, etc... Was pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, it isn't easy to find out how you can handle screamers without getting your base destroyed. If you want to be spoiled, read on:

--------------------------------------
SPOILER:

1) Before getting any screamers, enclose your base with spike traps. That is the easiest way to kill them without them seeing you
2) If screamers are endlessly spawning and you get overwhelmed with zombies, just run away. Run away so far you can't see them anymore. Your base won't be destroyed because they will despawn once you are far enough away.

Hi Xara,

I am curious about what happened here, but without a log it's hard to tell what is going on. Please remember that those are invaluable to us for troubleshooting issues or concerns.

With that said, were you playing with other people? Was this a dedicated server session or a multiplayer session? Were other higher-level players around or in a party with you? Player level/gamestage is also important. Without being able to see your gamestage at the time this occurred, it is difficult to understand what happened here.

Any additional information you can provide is invaluable in assisting us with game balance.

Thanks,
Dollie

I was not at my base, I was at medical camp 01 on Day 2, which was weird to see this so early in game when I hadn't used fire. I'm a veteran player so I was able to survive with getting infected, broken limbs, etc... 🤣

The Tier 0 POI with the zombie bear is "Construction Site" and I found it on day 3 at perhaps level 5. Apparently, this is a well-discussed and know issue. For me, there is NO reasonable explanation for this to be marked as Tier 0, especially since you can't easily see the bear in the tunnel under the POI, and certainly cannot tell that it's a zombie bear rather than a normal bear.

It's an unexpected surprise that you will remember. Don't go in that POI in early game. There's also a corn field POI with a shack that contains either a wolf or dire wolf. You stay away from that one for sure if not well armed.

They do give you good warning on that one... or at least they did (I haven't been in there in a while, so maybe it's been changed). As you move towards and into that cave with the bear, there are a lot of corpse piles. That should give you a good warning that something dangerous is there. I know we aren't used to seeing real warnings in this game other than perhaps dog houses, but there are story elements in certain POI like those corpses that can give you an idea that something is dangerous up ahead.

Also, be aware that tier 0 does not mean the easiest POI in the game. It pretty much just means the POI isn't a questable POI. Some are very easy, and some are harder. Don't assume any tier 0 is going to be simple.

I actually go to that one as soon as I see it. I look in the windows, and if it's a wolf, I kill it (free meat) and if it's a dire wolf I quietly sneak away.

Back before they changed the dire wolves, I'd kill the dire wolf too, only takes a handful of arrows.
