Old Issue is Back

zombiehunter

Scavenger
Version
2.5
Platform
Windows
A few versions ago, some buttons that unlocked doors, etc. in the world did not work. They needed to work to progress through the POI. You had to destroy the button to unlock the door, etc. That's not too bad when you have a T6 steel pickaxe, but anything less than that and it's a chore, as the buttons have 7000 hit points. The issue was fixed then.

The issue is back with 2.5. So far in my current playthrough (I'm on day 46), I've seen it 4 times. I took a screenshot of all four.NonWorkingButton1.jpgNonWorkingButton2.jpgNonWorkingButton3.jpgNonWorkingButton4.jpg

Reproduction Steps
Appears to be random so far.

You're using mods and aren't including a log, so about the only response you're likely to get it to try it without mods. I've had no problems with buttons in 2.5 and I've been through a LOT of POI.

Start a new save without any mods installed and teleport to one of those POI. Give yourself god mode so you can go through without spending time getting leveled up and then see if the buttons work. You can test that very quickly and easily and it will answer the question about whether or not it is caused by a mod. After you've tested it, you can put your mods back in before going back to your original game.

It is likely that a mod is no longer compatible in 2.5 and needs to be updated.

My brother has no mods installed and he got the same thing in a POI recently. So it does still happen in certain POIs.

Which POI? It's hard to test without knowing any information. At least the screenshots above showed the POI names and specific buttons, so those can be tested (I haven't had a chance to test those specific ones, and I can't be sure if I've done those POI in 2.5 or not). I just haven't had issues with any buttons and I've done a lot of different POI across my map in 2.5.

Also, is your brother's game a completely new game as of 2.5 stable, or a game that was made in experimental or before 2.5? It's possible that could impact the buttons. I'm using a new save from 2.5 stable without issues. That of course doesn't mean there aren't any issues. I think I'd have seen some if it was a problem, but that isn't necessarily true.

If it is a server where a custom POI is not installed on your client, you can get that behavior to happen. Basically, POIs aren't truly server-side only and the key racks and buttons are one of the side effects. But for Vanilla POIs, that shouldn't be the source of the issue because everyone has all of those installed with their game.

I talked with my brother and he doesn't remember which POI it was, but it was a new game he started in 2.5. He had to break the button to get the door to open.
Even if you haven't seen it in your game, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It happens because a few people already said that it does.
It's an old issue so it will get fixed, just like the horrible FPS in certain areas; it used to be an issue in one of the last Alphas before 1.0 and it got fixed pretty fast at that time.
I believe that TFP will get this fixed for 2.6

Had the same issue at Fort Quonset-POI (no mods, fresh game -> dedicated Server 10k RWG Map)

It might be that the index number that links the button to the door no longer matches up. If that's the case, they would want to know specifically which POI and which door, else you're giving them a needle in a haystack.

I guess you're right with that. Least I can say is: It's the same door/switch shown in the original Post, Screenshot 3. Fort Quonset-POI in the Forest.
Will be coming back with more infos once I'm back home

Ok, I just ran through these POI. Note that I did these on a new save in 2.5 and just went in with god mode and a dev gun to rush through them quickly. That should have no effect on whether or not buttons work, though. I did these all as Clear quests.

Pop N Pills button shown in the screenshot worked for me.
Fort Quonset button shown in the screenshot worked for me.
Butcher Petes button shown in the screenshot worked for me.

However, Ma Baker's button shown in the screenshot did not work for me.

Based on that, it seems this may be a random problem and may be specific POI that are not working. Hopefully that gives some additional information about it that might help.

I came across another button that randomly didn't work (it normally works) last night. I think it was in Red Mesa, but it might have been a different one. I wasn't thinking about this at the time and didn't take note. However, it was in a POI where the button disables fire from a broken pipe, which then triggers an audio clip and summons a couple of zombies. I don't think I've seen a button disable the fire except in one POI, so that should help to verify which POI it was. That was in b27. I had to break the button to stop the fire and trigger the zombies.

I wasn't able to repro this either in SP or on a dedi. An output log from a vanilla game would be super helpful in recreating the issue. In the meantime, I am asking the team to see if we can get some logging to help narrow down the issue for non modded games.

I've seen it happen a few more times. Each and every time in the Pop N Pills Factory, the locked door in my first screen shot. I'll try it again without any mods and if it happens again, I'll try to get the log file and upload it.

The problem is reproducing it. It's random and seems to happen in any POI that has a button. I've done maybe 4-5 Red Mesa runs in this save, and only one was broken. We might see it without mods, or it might not happen just because of the nature of RNG and not because of no mods.
