Explosives rework

Old Crow

Hunter
Explosives, in my opinion, need a rework. Here's my suggestions:

- Mines. Get rid of them as craftables. Does anyone actually use these?
- Pipe Bombs. Keep. These make sense. Same with Molotovs.
- Hand Grenades. Non craftable, but lootable. It makes sense to find these in military crates.
- Contact Grenades. Get rid of them. Replace them with Grenade Launcher ammo.
- Timed Charges. Keep these. Kinda feel like they shouldn't be craftable, but maybe.

- Add: Grenade Launcher. The Rocket Launcher is cool, but it'd be nice to have another ranged explosives weapon that isn't thrown. It should come in a tier prior to the Rocket Launcher.
- Grenade Launcher Ammo. Replace the Contact Grenades with these.
- Add: Smoke Grenades. Make it harder for zombies to find you for a short time. Would be good for stealth builds (I know, the Pimps hate stealth.)
- Add: Incendiary Grenades. They'd act like Molotovs but with a little extra range.

- Remove: Flaming Bolts/Arrows. Again, does anyone use these? I kind of sense people stick with explosive and stone/iron/steel bolts and arrows.

The differences I would look at is keep, all but give them each a unique use.
Flaming arrows/bolts use the sticky to provide temp light like in Thief.
The addition of the demo quest, gave me the thought of explosives for more
demolition situations. I make mollies more often now, Kill an animal, wait and
lob. I like the Incendiary Grenades. They'd act like Molotovs but with a little extra
range. Plus I would get burned less in close quarters.

This game is sandbox and should have variaty in recipes! Let players decide these kind of things when they make servers
Its already enough of how much stuff, TFP removed since A17!

Will support this! It would be nice to see 6 barrel grenade launcher

I also would like a grenade launcher, and a new armor set based on explosives. Would not like to see contact grenades removed as they are the more useful one.

I would also like to see grenades become easier to use, having to swap to them on your hot bar, prime them and throw them takes too long to be useful in most situations. Even through the rocket launcher is a big part of my endgame setup i don't use any of the other explosives before unlocking the launcher.

Perhaps a bind-able input key to throw grenades? The first few levels of the explosive perk could massively reduce priming time and throw charge speed.

Yes! I was really hoping the Marauder Armor would be an explosives-based set, or that remote detonators would be added to the game - I feel like that armor's trailer was just false advertising. An explosives oriented armor set would be awesome.

Mines are very useful during bloodmoon, although it would be great to get exp per mine kill, same for wood spikes.
I don't know how useful they really are (one explosion and they are gone), but they are fun. I had around 600 during my last horde night. That was a BLAST to watch. ;)

The downside was that zombies kept losing legs and then stayed on top of a trigger plate because there was a block to jump over after it, and it caused me to run out of darts too quickly since it was very hard to get a good line on them crawling around behind the block to kill them.

That's kinda my issue with mines. You'd need to make lots of them to get any real use for base defense. And then hope multiple zombies are close enough to eachother when ONE gets set off. Just not worth it imo.

Maybe a 40mm grenade launcher under barrel attachment for shotty or AR?
I'd prefer to see it as a standalone weapon.

How does smoke affect hearing and smell? This is more interesting for PvP than as a weapon against zombies.

These arrows are used quite actively. At low levels, they deal quite a bit of damage.

I was thinking more of an M79-style? So it doesn't step on the Rocket Launcher's toes.

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe a loud bang with the smoke? The smoke itself might mess with their smell, too.
