Bring back the original stealth as a tiered perk

The original stealth that had the cross hair change into an eye when crouching was great as opposed to the current bar. I appreciate the change they made to the system on the last update so now the bar at least changes from green to yellow. That helps. However, I have an idea that would be the best of both worlds.

Under the Perk "From the Shadows" integrate stealth into it to make the perk more valuable.
For example:
By default you have no stealth or detection. This will be much more challenging. But when you perk in, you can get the below.
1 - Lurker - This reduces the chance of being detected (This increases with each level as we currently have with the perk)
2 - Shadower - This adds the ability to see your noise level
3 - Stalker - This adds the ability to see if you're undetected (Close eye cross hair) If detected or hunted you won't know the difference, the closed eye will just disappear.
4 - Prowler - Adds the ability to see if you are detected (Partially open cross hair eye) If hunted, the eye just stays partially open.
5 - Shadow Ninja - Adds the ability to see if you are hunted (Eye cross hair opens) This level enables the full ability of stealth.

The above could be tweaked any way, but I think a return of the old stealth system in any shape or form would be a great add, perk or not.

Thanks

I don't think I really understand beyond the use of the eye icon. That is, I don't know what part of this comes from the "original stealth system." Just the eye icon?

There's some interesting suggestions in there about revealing information at different Perk levels.

Overall, as a stealth player, I have no desire to return to A16 stealth. That was pathetic compared to now. Last summer when I went back and played A16 for a while, stealth wasn't very good. Zombies had trouble detecting an unskilled character and I could remain hidden in some odd cases.

My above idea is more from the characters perspective, not the zombies. Back then our ability to know what was going on was more fine tuned compared to now. Up until now all we had was a bar with an open eye that had a level that goes up and down to tell us if we are making noise, pretty useless compared to the cross hair that we had before which gave us live updates on our detected status. When they removed that, it was a huge step back IMO.

Well if it is about giving more information, then I have no objection, though I would say the stealth meter is far from useless. If you've ever turned on the on-screen stealth data (that I assume is used to monitor/debug stealth) the stealth meter is actually very sensitive, showing you every footstep you make.

I haven't used that, sounds interesting. However, if that is the case, it only shows our footsteps, but not if we've been detected from the zombies perspective. That feature was removed long ago.

My understanding is your bar is yellow when there's an alert zombie near you and it is usually pretty easy to tell if they're coming for you. I suppose it does lack an indicator for "at least one knows where you are." I guess I've found that to be part of the fun. With the newer wanderers, you have to be careful and show a little courage to see if they've located you or not. But if you've gotten into hunting outside at night, you can shoot and displace and pretty easily know when they've seen you and when they haven't. Inside, it's more about breaking line of sight to reestablish stealth.

This is the part I like. Modern stealth is more cat and mouse, where A16 stealth was more "crouch and go" with less-perceptive zombies. But, there's some room to expand on stealth some and if visual indicators come with later perk levels then I wouldn't object to that.
